The Kick-Ass actress shared that in the past she wasn’t too affected by what people said about her because she knew it wasn’t true and understood that being an actress comes with rumors. However, when the conversation turned to her body, it made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

“For a long time I was able to be the Chloë that people see and the Chloë that I am in private,” she shared with Hunger magazine.

“Then those two worlds collided and I felt really raw and vulnerable and open,” she explained. And then came the onslaught of horrific memes that started getting sent to me about my body.

The actress's body was being scrutinized for a crappy paparazzi shot. “There was one meme that really affected me, of me walking into a hotel with a pizza box in my hand,” she said. “And this photo got manipulated into a character from Family Guy with the long legs and the short torso, and it was one of the most widespread memes at the time.”

She realized that everyone was making fun of her body and it suddenly made her painfully aware that people were aware. The Greta actress started in the business at 12, for her, her body was the last thing in her mind because she was playing cool roles like Hit Girl.

The meme featured the main character Peter Griffin in a cut scene where he is a woman with long legs and a blond wig. The character was dubbed “legs go all the way up”. Passersby were terrified of her because she had no torso only legs. They screamed and ran from the character. You can see why Moretz was a bit bothered.

Moretz admitted that when she had had enough, she chose to call out someone who was laughing about the meme right in front of her, but it didn’t go well at all. “Everyone was making fun of my body and I brought it up with someone and they were like, ‘Oh, shut the f**k up, it’s funny,’” she remembered.

The blowback put the actress in a weird headspace and she cowered. “I just remember sitting there and thinking, my body is being used as a joke and it’s something that I can’t change about who I am, and it is being posted all over Instagram.”

The hate was hard for the young actress mostly because it seemed like collectively everyone was agreeing that it was true. “It was something so benign as walking into a hotel with leftovers. And to this day, when I see that meme, it’s something very hard for me to overcome.”

She isn’t going to allow it to break her though! The Susperia star has tools that help her to get past the hurtful side of being famous.

“I have my sights on getting behind the camera,” she shared and for her, acting is a “form of therapy.” What she’s saying is, she is goal-oriented and that keeps her focused and distracted from the negative.
