Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz are making some progress away from each other.
The "Vanderpump" stars, who met in 2011 and married in 2016 after five years of dating, have been in the news lately concerning their divorce proceedings. After announcing their decision to part ways some months back, the proceedings have crawled at a snail's pace; however, news has surfaced concerning the situation.
Katie Maloney And Tom Schwartz Almost Done With Divorce
The 'Vanderpump Rules' Stars finally settled on their affairs, meaning that they decided to move forward to legalize the split, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Their indecisiveness over financials is one reason the finalization of their divorce took a while.
In the document, they relinquished any claims to current or future spousal support and agreed on how to divide their shared assets. Although their split is settled, all left is for a judge to sign off on the paperwork for it to become finalized.
Maloney announced the end of her 12-year relationship on her Instagram page. In the statement, she wrote, "This ending is not met with resentment or hate, no sides to choose." She added that they would still maintain a deep admiration for each other and remain friends.
The 35-year-old also mentioned that while they may go in different directions, they would continue to love and support themselves. Ending the message, she thanked the public for their kind words and support.
On the other hand, Schwartz addressed the breakup in his statement, revealing Maloney was the one who chose to separate. The message began with the 39-year-old noting that he was not feeling great about the entire situation and was finding it hard to express his thoughts. He then wrote:
"Fully respect Katie's decision, and we've had healthy, productive conversations about it. It would be far sadder if she decided to stay with me while not happy."
He also mentioned that she had taught him how to be a better partner, recounting how they experienced true happiness and romance throughout their relationship while asking for some understanding from their fans as they processed the sad circumstance.
While the divorce proceedings may be almost finalized, fans of the duo will recall how shocking it felt when the actress filed for divorce about six months ago, which was reported by The Blast. In legal documents obtained, the star cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
It was incredibly confusing at the time because they had been spotted several times together at dinners and gatherings, including spotting Schwartz wearing his wedding ring in California. The news dashed fans' hopes of the reality TV stars ever reconciling.
On her podcast "You're Gonna Love Me," the "Harper's Globe" actress opened up about their situation and how she knew the news of the separation came as a shock to many people and how it may have seemed like an abrupt decision.
She said it was not an immediate decision and had been some time in the making, adding that it was probably one of the most painful and arduous decisions she had ever made.
The "Vanderpump Rules" Ex-Couple Remain Cordial Amid Divorce Proceedings
In August, The Blast shared that the reality stars opened up about their continuing friendship between each other and their mutual friends while still filming the tenth season of the show together.
Apart from working, the stars have been spotted enjoying days together by the pool and dinners. The actor shared on his ex's podcast that even though they were still hanging out, it was not done unhealthily but with healthy boundaries.
He added, "I'm happy that we're still close. I think, relatively speaking, we've done a damn good job divorcing each other." The "Night Zero" actress pipped in, then that because they had been like family for a very long time, it was a priority for them to remain friends.
