Meghan Markle is constantly being picked apart in the media for seemingly everything she does or does not do. Now that she and husband Prince Harry have taken a step back from the royal family (officially ended at the end of the month), many have turned to the official Instagram account of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as fuel for their rants.
While many of the complaints surrounding the Sussex Royal account have come from commentators, some in the press are making their thoughts known, too.
British journalist Piers Morgan, tore into a post from the Sussex Royal Instagram account published on International Women’s Day. In the photos, Duchess Meghan meets with women and girls in Dagenham, England and speaks with Geraldine Dear who went on strike over women’s pay in 1968.
Morgan took issue with the post, accusing Meghan of lacking humility for publishing photos of herself on International Women’s Day. When commenters accused Morgan of being the fame-chaser he described Meghan as he sarcastically agreed.
This sort of behavior is not exclusive to Morgan and the British press. Earlier this year, many social media users accused Duchess Meghan of intentionally posting images of herself doing charity work at an animal rescue at the same time as an official Cambridge Instagram post of Kate Middleton’s royal engagements.
People accused the Duchess of Sussex of timing her post to specifically knock the wind out of Kate’s sails and steal some attention away from the Duchess of Cambridge.
Many who make these accusations act as if Duchess Meghan is personally in charge of publishing these Instagram posts. Theories have swirled around the Sussex Royal Instagram account for years, with people trying to investigate the matter to prove or disprove the account’s overseer as Meghan herself.
So far, there doesn’t seem to have been much evidence, other than borders around the photographs … which honestly isn’t a whole lot of proof. There could be a case to be made in these more recent days considering the majority of the Sussexes’ staff has been let go, but they do still maintain a PR person.
Meghan and Harry frequently speak out about criticisms and harassment from the British media. The couple has cited this behavior as a major reason they decided to move to Canada. Harry openly blames the media for the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
Morgan often gets into feuds with British celebrities like JK Rowling and Jameela Jamil. Jamil fights back against Morgan frequently on Twitter, as the broadcaster often criticizes the former The Good Place actor’s health claims and social justice work.
