Who In The World Is Keira Knightley's Husband?

Keira Knightley might be an A-list celebrity, an appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services to drama, and an international sex symbol, but compared to lookalike A-lister Natalie Portman, or her Pirates of the Caribbean co-stars Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, there's an awful lot about her life that slips by fans.

For instance, did you know she was in Star Wars, in the same film, and the same scenes, as Natalie Portman? Probably not. And you probably haven't heard much about her husband, either.

The 34-year-old Knightley, whose first Hollywood picture was Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999), where she played Queen Amidala's decoy and handmaiden, Sabé, and went on to international stardom via Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), where she played Elizabeth Swann, has certainly grown up in the spotlight, acting since the age of 9.

But when it comes to her personal life, Keira has been notoriously tight-lipped. The star is not active on social media, and hasn't made much of a fuss over the fact she's a married mother-of-two.

Although the star recently snatched headlines for her decision to no longer film nude scenes, rebuffing criticism in advance with assurances that she's comfortable with her body—and thankful it pulled off the "amazing" feat of giving birth to two children—but rather focusing on her role as a mother and her fears Hollywood sex scenes were becoming too risque and too liable to be edited and posted on pornography sites, she hasn't made much of a splash otherwise in recent years.

Thus, she has avoided scrutiny of her personal life quite successfully, and many fans don't know much about Keira's kids, Edie and Delilah, nor about her husband.

Keira's husband is British musician James Righton, 36. Not particularly well-known, Righton is a singer, and was also the keyboard-player of the London-based new rave band Klaxons, which disbanded in 2015.

Keira met James at a party "through our mate Tim, not Alexa Chung, as people keep telling me. We were very drunk." She added, "He's the sort of person who will be the brightest light in any room whereas I'm the one who sits in the corner." Keira Knightley is known for her shyness, which many fans find adorably appealing.

The two married on May 4, 2013, in Mazan, Vaucluse, in France. Their first daughter, Edie, was born in 2015, while their second, Delilah, was born in September 2019.

"[Edie] has occasionally slept through the night, but not in any kind of prolonged sense," Keira told Us of her disrupted sleep schedules, back in the day. She kept to her usual routine of intense privacy when it came to her second child. "You can tell I’ve got a 6-week-old baby, can’t you?" she said in a BBC Breakfast interview. "I’m talking, but I've got no idea where I’m going." All accounts are that her marriage with James is happy.
