Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart: The Secret to Their Long Marriage

Calista Flockhart has been married to Harrison Ford since 2010. Ford is 22 years older than Flockhart, so their relationship was not taken that seriously by the world when it began. Still, Flockhart ignored the haters and pursued this love that has turned out to be the real deal.

Harrison Ford had been married long before his relationship with Flockhart began. From 1964 to 1979, he was married to Mary Marquardt, an illustrator and chef. They had two kids together.

In her memoir, Carrie Fisher revealed Ford's affair that may have contributed to the ending of his marriage.

Fisher said that Ford actually had the affair while working on the 1977 film titled 'Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope.'

In 1983, Ford married a screenwriter named Melissa Mathison. They also had two kids together. Ford and Mathison separated in 2000, and it was Mathison that filed for divorce in 2001.

Calista finally met Ford in 2002 at the 'Golden Globes.' Apparently, she 'intentionally' spilled her drink on Ford 'in order to meet him.' As a result, the two made plans to meet up later on.

In a 2013 interview, 'Ally McBeal' co-star James Marsden said that Flockhart invited him on her first date with Ford, saying, "She said, ‘Come to dinner with me and Harrison.’ I’m like, ‘Me, you, and him?’ It turned out to be a small group of us, thankfully, but I ended up as her wingman.”

Marsden went on to say, 'He was giggly and goofy around her but pretty aloof with the rest of us.'

It did not take long for Ford to express interest in Flockhart. Marsden recalls the moment with, "We had more drinks, he played more music and then at some point he gave me a look that said, ‘OK, you’ve got to get the f*** out of here.'”

Flockhart had this to say about the age gap in a 2003 interview, "It doesn’t faze me. Sometimes I even say, ‘Wow, I keep forgetting that he’s 22 years older than me’. It doesn’t factor into our relationship at all."

In 2003, Ford had this to say about his new relationship with Flockhart, 'Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love, and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life. I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did.'

Ford finally proposed in February of 2009. The couple got married that same year, in June.

When commenting on how their relationship has lasted so long, Flockhart told 'Fox News,' 'Harrison and I laugh a lot, and humor is everything to me.'

She went on to say that sometimes she feels 'very much older' than Ford.

So, the two laugh a lot. They also make it a point to ignore the haters. We can all take this to heart. They love each other, and that is all that matters.
