"PEELED" Is The First & Only All-Vegan Cooking Competition Show

Chefs race against the clock to impress discerning vegan judges and avoid being, “Peeled into the compost.”

In the end, only one contestant can take home the title of “Hottest Vegan Chef.”

“PEELED” makes television history with its all-vegan cast. Contestants will cook up compassion to raise money for worthy causes as they also compete to win the chance to create a dessert menu item for the largest international vegan restaurant chain, The Copper Branch.

Dr. Shabnam Islam and Chef Babette Davis host the one of a kind competition cooking show co-created by Star Simmons.

Simmons vision for “PEELED” sparked the interest of “Chef Josie Clemens, who competed on Gordon Ramsay’s world-renowned reality competition show, “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Chef Clemens co-created “PEELED.”

Simmons is also the founder of Vkind, an organization whose mission “is to make veganism accessible by bringing together the best of vegan products, professionals, businesses and services in one easy-to-navigate platform.”

The Blast spoke to the Simmons, Islam and celebrity chef judge Chris Tucker at the Mercy For Animals gala on September 16th.

“’PEELED’ is the first all-vegan cast, crew vegan competition cooking show. So, this is something we’ve never seen before. Though we’ve seen a lot of vegans cooking, what we haven’t seen is that from the creator to the cast to the crew. Every single person, even to our craft services was completely vegan,” Islam exclusively told The Blast. “What we’re trying to show to the community is that it’s accessible, it’s easy, it’s cheap, it’s affordable and you know what, you can do it in the comfort of your own home.”

Tucker added another unique quality about “PEELED.”

“We’ve pulled in a bunch of brands that are easily accessible for anybody watching at home. So, the next time they go to the grocery store, they might say, ‘On PEELED when they needed to use pork they subbed in this product from OmniFoods,’ which they can pick up from all SPROUTS locations across the nation,” Tucker told us.

Simmons admitted she’s had the idea for an all-vegan cooking competition show for a long time, but it wasn’t until the last quarter of last year that everything began falling into place.

“I thought, ‘Why can’t we have a space? Why can’t we show what foods are available out there without causing harm to animals,’” Simmons said. “It’s been a passion of mine.”

The Blast asked  Islam, Simmons and Tucker were asked for their thoughts on Ramsey’s now-viral video of him picking out a lamb to cook.

"PEELED" Cast Weigh In On Gordon Ramsay's Viral Lamb Video

“I was disappointed, because my understanding is his daughter is vegan or exploring veganism, and he seems to be open to it, so for him to take that step back and do that and make fun of animal’s life like that is very disheartening for me,” Simmons explained.

Tucker said it’s imperative to know when people are entering the vegan world for profit versus compassion.

“I think in terms of this individual, he is probably entering the space for profit and not so much from a compassion standpoint,” said Tucker. “This little instance with the lamb is just showing his character.”

The show will stream simultaneously online on peeledshow.com and launch 24 hours post-premiere on Unchained TV, which is available on Amazon Fire, Roku and Apple TV.
