Controversial actor and comedianRoseanne Barr is returning to standup comedy with a new one-hour special from the Fox Nation streaming service. Fox Nation announced the news this week by platform president Jason Klarman.

The new special, "A Roseanne Comedy Special," will debut exclusively on Fox Nation early next year. The one-hour comedy special will be Barr's first stand-up comedy special in 16 years.

Barr's last stand-up comedy special was "Blonde and Bitchin'" on HBO in 2006. The special will make its Fox Nation debut in the first quarter of next year.

According to an official press release, the special will feature Barr's "signature comedic take on a variety of topics," adding that "no subject" will be off limits.

Fox Nation, a direct-to-consumer and on-demand streaming service owned and operated by the Fox News Channel, has been expanding its exclusive content portfolio. The streaming service's offerings also include "Duck Family Treasure," "Sharon Osbourne: To Hell & Back," and Kevin Costner's upcoming "Yellowstone: One-Fifty." "Sharon Osbourne: To Hell & Back" debuts on September 26.

The new special looks to be Fox Nation trying something different with a stand-up comedy special. Klarman said on the news in an official statement, "Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other." He continued on the comedy special announcement, "Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans."

Before Roseanne Returned To Stand-Up

Barr is best known for her work on the hit ABC series "Roseanne," which won four Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and  Peabody Award during its run. The show originally debuted on ABC in October 1988 and averaged 30 million viewers a week across its initial nine-year run before ending in 1997. Barr herself won an Emmy for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on the show in 1992.

Barr would star in "Roseanne" once again for the show's 2018 revival. According to Deadline, the show's tenth season premiere airing on March 27, 2018 was viewed by 18.6 million viewers. However, the show was soon canceled after a tweet posted by Barr on social media that was widely seen as offensive regarding White House Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett. ABC later revived the show once more, however, it was retitled "The Conners," and Barr was no longer part of the series.

In her 2022 documentary, "Roseanne: Kicked Out Of Hollywood," the comedian said she was a victim of "cancel culture," which cost her the return of her sitcom. While she admitted she should not have made the comments regarding Valerie Jarrett, she said they were the result of her being "pissed that day" while she was using Ambien.

Barr has had a prolific career in stand-up comedy in the past, often sharing her experiences as a wife and mother in her comedy act. She also served as the host of the talk show, "The Roseanne Show," from 1998 to 2000. Her career also includes her work as a bestselling author of three books, including "Roseanne: My Life as a Woman," My Lives," and "Roseannearchy: Dispatches from the Nut Farm." Barr is also said to be currently writing a tell-all memoir.

The official release date for the special on Fox Nation will be announced later on.
