Meghan Markle, being American and coming from more humble beginnings, was very much less prepared than her brother-in-law’s counterpart, Kate Middleton. Middleton knew what to expect from the royalty, as she was thrust from a young age into the lavish lifestyle of the British aristocracy.
Markle, on the hand, was entering into a completely foreign world. While the Duchess of Sussex did her best to acclimate to the royal life, she struggled in dealing with ‘unrealistic expectations’ according to royal commentator Omid Scoobie, which subsequently lead to the ultimate fall out and the decision to relinquish their roles as senior members of the royal family.
Scoobie’s podcast, Heirpod, is a platform that naturally focuses on the royal family and all the ‘happenings’ that surround them. Naturally, as ‘Megxit’ nears completion at the end of this month, the topic of Prince Harry and Meghan’s departure is something that is being talked about.
According to Scoobie, though, he’s recently heard from sources that have shared Markle was expecting some sort of ‘honeymoon period’ after she married Prince Harry, which would tone down the criticisms that she and her husband had been receiving from the British media. For the royal commentator, she could have not been more wrong in making this assumption.
💯% support for The Queen who has done everything to extend a warm welcome to #MeghanMarkle
That this two bit, underachieving actress would dare to insult the 93 year old who has dedicated her life to public service is totally unacceptable. Kick her @$$.https://t.co/lI0SgoPTiL— 𝓐𝓵𝓵 𝓣𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼 𝓡𝓸𝔂𝓪𝓵 👸🏽🌟✨ (@things_royal) February 25, 2020
“I think one of the biggest mistakes Meghan made, and I’ve heard this from sources close to her, is that she naively went in thinking this role came almost with an instant popularity,” Scoobie said on his podcast. “[Meghan thought] you start in a good place and there is this, no matter what, there is a honeymoon period that comes with marrying into the royal family that allows you to falter at times, or figure something out, or whatever it is.”
Basically, Scoobie was insinuating that Markle believed she would ultimately be in good graces with the media upon marrying Prince Harry, only faltering when a big gaffe was made or some controversial statement was conveyed.
“I think that was one of the key things, and I think that towards the end she felt she wasn’t given that by the press or members of the royal family, by aides or courtiers within the households,” Scoobie continued during the podcast. “I think everyone somehow had this level of expectation from her from the get-go that was perhaps somewhat unrealistic, and perhaps she herself had some unrealistic expectations from the role too.”
Another source, Alison Ward, believes that it wasn’t just Markle that was naive about the whole situation, but Prince Harry, himself, despite growing up within the framework of the royal family and being scrutinized by the media.
“Pointing out a powerful woman’s supposed faults makes those who are lesser feel better about themselves. They try to tear her down so she’ll feel as little as they are. But you cannot tear down a star. You cannot dull greatness.” -Nora Roberts #MeghanMarkle #WeLoveYouMeghan ⭐️⭐️ pic.twitter.com/WM7JxBaxPI

“Harry has been as normal a royal family member that has been possible,” Ward told The Express in a recent interview. “He has seen the damage inflicted upon others by war and himself has been damaged by losing his mother at a young age and by the intrusion of the media.”
“I’m picking up that it’s not an act of defiance simply their stance at their new life and what is acceptable albeit somewhat naive,” she continued. “I believe Harry knows the real world more so than other royals and would have expected a 12 month transition period as it makes sense and he is a logical person. Of course, the royal correspondents are going to say that they wish to undermine Harry and Meghan as they have broken away from the fold. [They’ll] fight for the life they believe they deserve and desire.”
