Actress Kristin Cavallari and former NFL quarterback, Jay Cutler, have been married for seven years, but the Laguna Beach alum wasn't always sure that she wanted to marry him and at one point, returned his engagement ring, effectively ending their relationship, at least temporarily.
In the latest episode of the hit show, Very Cavallari, Kristin explained to her friend, Justin Anderson, why she decided to call off the couple's engagement and what changed, leading the two to rekindle their romance and eventually tie the knot.

In the most recent episode, which aired on February 7, Cavallari was having a conversation with her friend, Justin Anderson, on the topic of marriage and the pressure couples feel the exchange their vows.
Anderson, dealing with his own relationship issues, asked Cavallari about when she knew it was the right moment to commit to marriage. "How did you know when it was right?" he asked her. Cavallari began a long story about how she and Cutler met and why it progressed so fast.

"So, I met Jay when I was 23. I was a f---ing baby, but he told me he loved me after two months, and then he proposed after eight months, and it all just moved so fast," Cavallari responded to Anderson.
The couple began dating in 2010 through a long-distance relationship, but were quickly engaged in 2011. For the reality television star, things were moving too fast for her liking. She felt as though there were a bunch of things that needed to be worked out or changed between the two before they committed to getting married.

"And then I remember I just all of a sudden was like, ‘this isn’t right.’ Like, there are certain things in our relationship that needed to change, and I was just, like, ‘I don’t know that this is what I want," she continued. Cavallari also acknowledged that her parents were divorced and she didn't even know if she was someone who wanted to get married.
"I remember we were in L.A. and I gave him back this ring," she said while looking down at her wedding ring. "And I watched him walk out the door and ended up really missing him, and then we got back together."

It wouldn't take long for the two to rekindle their romantic relationship together. Soon, though, Cavallari would become pregnant with their first child, changing everything in her mind. "And then I get pregnant with Camden, and that’s when I really changed how I felt about marriage," she said to Anderson. "That’s when we got married and I’m so happy that I did."
"Marriage is hard f---ing work, but it’s so worth it," she continued, sharing that her relationship has taken a lot of perseverance to make things work. "But you have to come to that conclusion on your own, it can’t be because someone is making you."
