Ever since the finale of season 3 of Riverdale, viewers have anticipated Jughead's (Cole Sprouse) death. Beginning with that finale, we've flash forwarded in short snippets to see Jughead's seemingly lifeless body, Betty standing over him with a rock in her hand, and Betty (Lili Reinhart), Archie (KJ Apa), and Veronica (Camila Mendes) being arrested and taken into custody for his murder. As the teasing has gone on, fan theory after fan theory has come up regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.

A popular theory among avid fans is that Jughead's cousin, the ridiculously-named Souphead Jones, has something to do with it. Souphead has not been introduced yet, nor is there any evidence that he will be, but it would be a pretty easy transition to make, as Souphead looks and dresses exactly like Jughead-- the only difference is that Souphead is obsessed with soup, while Jughead is passionate about burgers. There are a few increasingly popular theories that involve Jughead's cousin.

There seem to be two main theories that involve Souphead. Some fans have speculated that Jughead actually dies, and that Souphead will join the show to fill the gap that Jughead's character left behind and round out the cast of characters. The other is that Jughead has not died, but that he and Souphead have been conspiring together to stage a fake death in order to get the Stonewall Prep students in trouble. As we all know, Cole Sprouse has an identical twin, Dylan, so this would be pretty easy for the show to pull off.

While the Souphead theory is far-fetched, Riverdale is known for its absurd plot twists. At this point, fans of the show have gotten so used to the insane turns that writers need a way to keep us on our toes, and throwing in random family members would be an effective way to do that. Plus, this theory has a basis in the original comics, although in true Riverdale fashion, it would be given a darker twist: In the comics, Souphead, Jughead, and Souphead's older brother Nathan love to play jokes on the rest of the characters. So it's in their personalities to plot something like a fake death.

Although the Souphead theory has exploded recently, there are plenty of others that have become popular within the Riverdale fandom. The teasers would have us believe that Betty murdered Jughead, but almost no one is having it. On Reddit, one user wrote, "I think Brett, Mr Dupont, Mr Honey and Charles are working together," while another theorized that Jughead can't be dead, since he is still narrating the series (although, if Souphead also sounds like Jughead, he could be the one doing the voiceover).
