Royal Expert Says Normal Life Will Be More Difficult For Harry Than Expected

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are symbolically turning in their badges as senior members of the royal family. They have decided to take a step back and split their time between North America and the United Kingdom. The couple has moved to Canada, where they are working toward becoming financially independent from the palace.

Naturally, such a huge decision has sparked all kinds of debate over the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. One royal expert now says this new life could be a lot more than Harry bargained for.

One of the couple's main goals is to become financially independent from the queen. They want to support themselves through their own work and even intend to pay back taxpayers in the United Kingdom the $3.1 million they spent to renovate their Frogmore Cottage home. The Frogmore staff has also been let go.

Harry and Meghan have already begun lining up appearances for high-profile events for companies like Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan. Though it is not clear whether they have accepted any money for their recent gigs.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly enjoying their newfound freedom. Sources say Duchess Meghan was never a fan of being waited on by staff members in the UK.

Similarly, Harry has been seen breaking royal protocol in the past by performing certain duties normally undertaken by staff, like closing his own car door at the Invictus Games. This is reportedly done to ensure the royal passenger is a safe distance from the vehicle before doors are closed and locked behind them. The Sussexes do still employ a reported 15 security guards in Canada.

Now that Meghan and Harry have settled into their new Canadian life, sources say they couldn't be happier. They are said to spend much of their time with their infant son, Archie Harrison and reportedly like to go on long walks as a family with their two dogs.

Yoga is said to be a big hobby in the Sussex household, as is food. Meghan is said to love cooking and grocery shopping for her own family. Harry sometimes brings home sandwiches from local shops.

Despite reports of happier times for the Sussexes, some royal experts have been warning of potential troubles ahead. One report indicates there could be issues as Harry and Meghan continue to honor their charities and patronages without the aid of a UK office. They do intend to spend half their time in the UK.

Royal photographer Arthur Edwards also believes this transition will be tougher than Harry expects. He points to the sheltered life the duke has led so far, noting all the everyday aspects of life Harry may not have had to deal with before, like parking a car or dealing with taxes and insurance.
