The founder of Patagonia is helping fight climate change.
Yvon Chouinard, the creator of the well-known outdoor retailer, announced he and his family had given away Patagonia.

In a statement published to the company’s website, Chouinard revealed Patagonia had been given to a non-profit organization and specifically developed trust to help combat climate change.
The clothing company is worth about three-billion-dollars.
Earth Is Now Patagonia's Shareholder
The piece titled, “Earth is our only shareholder” stated, “If we have any hope of a thriving planet- much less a business- it is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.”
He went into the history behind creating Patagonia, which never started out as business idea.
“I never wanted to be a businessman. I started as a craftsman, making climbing gear for my friends and myself, then got into apparel,” his statement read. “As we began to witness the extent of global warming and ecological destruction, and our own contribution to it, Patagonia committed to using our company to change the way business was done.”
Chouinard noted they created their own options.
“Instead of ‘going public,’ you could say we’re ‘going purpose.’ Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth for investors, we’ll use the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source of all wealth,” he continued. “100% of the company’s voting stock transfers to the Patagonia Purpose Trust, created to protect the company’s values; and 100% of the nonvoting stock had been given to the Holdfast Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting the environmental crisis and defending nature. The funding will come from Patagonia: Each year, the money we make after reinvesting in the business will be distributed as a dividend to help fight the crisis.”
Patagonia Is "Going Purpose"
He concluded, “Earth’s resources are not infinite, and it’s clear we’ve exceeded its limits. But it’s also resilient. We can save our planet if we commit to it.”
In recent months, celebrities have been called out for their excessive use of private jets and CO2 emissions.
The entire private jet conversation started after Kylie Jenner uploaded a photo of her and Travis Scott standing in front of their private jets.
She captioned the photo, “You wanna take mine or yours?”
Kylie’s private jet took off from Camarillo, CA. to Van Nuys, CA. Driving from Camarillo to Van Nuys is about a 45-minute drive depending on traffic. Flying that route privately takes only 17 minutes.
The cosmetics mogul lives in Hidden Hills, CA. which is 25.6 miles away from Camarillo, CA. and a 29-minute drive depending on traffic.
Now here’s the kicker… Van Nuys, where Kylie flew into, is 15.6 miles away from Hidden Hills and a 29-minute drive.

So, Kylie drove out of her way to fly 17 minutes to Camarillo, CA.
According to a marketing agency called “Yard,” celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather and Blake Shelton’s private jet trips have been polluting the air with the tons of CO2 this year alone.
Sadly, Taylor Swift is the one celebrity who has done it the most.
Taylor Swift Tops The List For Biggest Pollution Contributors
Yard’s website states, “We wanted to find out which celebrities have clocked up the most carbon emissions from private jet travel since the beginning of 2022. We’ve researched over 1,500 flights to find out, here’s what we found.”
They scraped data from “Celebrity Jets” to measure the “top celebrity offenders.”
Swift is among the top with 170 private flights since January. Her days spent in the air averages out to about 16 days.
Her flights emitted 8,293.54 tonnes in the past seven months.
Taylor’s team hit back at the shocking claims.
In a statement to Buzzfeed News, Taylor’s spokesperson stated, “Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”
