Upcoming 'Bring It On' Sequel Is Bringing Chills To The Horror Movie Industry

The beloved "Bring It On" franchise, whose first film starred Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union, is back with yet another sequel – this time taking a stab at the horror film industry.
The seventh installment in the franchise is said to go in a different direction from its other sequels, and this time features “cheer routines to die for and a thrilling new energy that flips the longtime cheerleading tournament format on its head.”
First Look at "Bring It On: Cheer or Die"
For the first time ever, the "Bring It On" franchise, which has had a cult following since its first film debuted in 2000, is dipping its toes into the horror industry with its seventh installment -- "Bring It On: Cheer or Die".
SYFY has just released a new trailer for the upcoming slasher film, which shows what fans of the franchise can expect, including violence, blood, gore, and everything else you would expect to see in a scary movie.

The seventh installment of "Bring It On" will be directed by Karen Lam and written by Rebekah McKendry and Dana Schwartz. It will be co-produced by Tony Gonzalez, who worked as the choreographer on several "Bring It On" films, and C. Eve Stewart. Gonzalez will also return as the supervising choreographer for "Cheer or Die".
The cast includes Kerri Medders (who will play Abby) and Tiera Skovbye (who will play McKayla).
Glenn Ross, general manager and executive vice president, Universal 1440 Entertainment, recently said:
“We are excited to team up with SYFY to continue this ever-popular franchise with an all-new installment from renowned filmmaker Karen Lam, the very first female director of the movie series. Featuring a fresh take on the franchise’s historically comedic films, this next chapter showcases a multi-talented diverse cast and will entertain longtime Bring It On movie fans as well as open the doors to the legion of fans who enjoy thrillers."
The upcoming film will be rated PG-13 for it is “violence, language, sexual material, and drug content.” "Bring It On: Cheer or Die" premieres Saturday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. EST on SYFY.

"Bring It On" (2000) starred Kirsten Dunst (Torrance Shipman), Eliza Dushku (Missy Pantone), Jesse Bradford (Cliff Pantone), Gabrielle Union (Isis), Clare Kramer (Courtney), and Nicole Bilderback (Whitney). The film became an instant hit and went on to have six other sequels, all starring different actors and actresses -- "Bring It On Again" (2004), "Bring It On: All or Nothing" (2006), "Bring It On: In It to Win It" (2007), "Bring It On: Fight to the Finish" (2009), "Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack" (2017), and the soon-to-be "Bring It On: Cheer or Die" (2022).
Although there is no confirmation on if Dunst or Union will ever return to the "Bring It On" franchise, in a recent interview, the East Compton Clovers captain actress, did tease the possibility of this happening. The actress spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the 2022 Daytime Beauty Awards recently, saying, "I've heard many takes over the years, but I'm hearing some really great takes from some big-name writers that are very surprising.
Although she didn't mention who those writers might be, she added, "Bring It On, baby. The gift that keeps on giving."
