Riverdale has been teasing that Forsythe Pendleton “Jughead” Jones III, a character played by actor Cole Sprouse, wiill probably die. It’s something that’s been teased since Season 4 started. Series regulars, Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols have already confirmed that they will be leaving the show after Season 4 ends. So the fans are asking, if Jughead dies, will Cole Sprouse leave as well?
Jughead is a character that fans have seen change for the better, for the worst again, and finally, for the better. It’ll be a true tragedy if he has actually died, but not something uncommon of television writers.
Will he actually die on Riverdale? That’s the big question. So far, all clues point to his demise. In a scene at the end of Episode 4, Season 4, “Chapter Sixty-One: Halloween,” fans see Jughead’s dad, F.P (played by Skeet Ulrich), in the coroner’s office, identifying Jughead’s body. Flash-forward scenes in Episodes 5 and 8 show Archie (played by KJ Apa), Betty, and Veronica (Camila Mendes) being arrested and taken to the police station. They’re being charged with Jughead’s murder.
In Episode 13, of Season 4, called “Chapter Seventy: The Ides of March,” Donna (Sarah Desjardins) tries to trigger Betty’s evil side by saying a word that will hypnotize her, so that she can be convinced to hurt her friends and family. Then, after Archie and Veronica leave the Ides of March party in the woods, they find Betty in a daze. She’s standing in front of Jughead’s body, with a huge rock in her hand.
Archie rushes to check Jug’s pulse, and does not find one. On the surfuce, it looks like Jughead is no more. But… we all know the twists and turns that Riverdale throws our way, so it could be a case of misdirection, as one Reddit User works to point out.
Reddit User: PurpleChiliPepper, posted nine months ago how they thought that Jughead was not going to die, and why they felt that way. There’s a ton of spoilers in the thread, but…
The basic gist is this:
My theory is that some Macbeth shit is going to go down. Jughead went nuts and killed Charles. He’s not in the scene because he’s off somewhere freaking out. Betty went into cover-up mode and enlisted Veronica & Archie to burn the body and all the evidence. I think Betty went all Lady Macbeth and was the reason for/driving force behind the murder.

Fans are worried, of course, why wouldn’t you be? It’s Jughead! He’s like, an important role. Riverdale has been renewed for Season 5, and there are many theories surrounding the idea that Jughead is not actually dead.
After all, Sprouse hinted his character would do more writing this season, which falls in-line with some “Jughead’s death is part of his book,” theories that fans are tossing around.
“My theory is that he isn’t dead,” one Reddit user wrote. “Those scenes are from the script of ‘The Perfect Murder’ he’s writing, and that is what they’ve been showing to throw us off and make us watch more — There’s no way they’d actually kill off a main character as important as Jughead.”
Cole Sprouse believes that they’ll be seeing more Season 1 Jughead, and he’s excited if that’s the case.
