Over the last few months, fans of Zac Efron, known for his roles in "High School Musical" (2006), "17 Again" (2009), and "The Greatest Showman" (2017), have been speculating the actor underwent plastic surgery as his face looked drastically different.
The actor addressed those rumors last week, and even made his first public appearance since doing so.
Zac Efron Addresses Plastic Surgery Rumors
The internet went in a tizzy after fans of the "High School Musical" actor realized his face looked very different. Some even speculated Efron underwent plastic surgery.
Well, the California native addressed those rumors once and for all last week, explaining that about four years ago, and over the span of a year-and-a-half, he had torn his ACL, dislocated his shoulder, broke his wrist and threw out his back. The actor said he also shattered his jaw after he slipped and fell into a granite fountain, which resulted in him getting knocked out and leaving his left his chin bone "hanging off his face" (all because he ran through his house wearing socks).
Following the face injury, the "Baywatch" actor explained that his masseter muscles had not healed correctly, despite working with a specialist and practicing physical therapy.
"The masseters just grew," he said. "They just got really, really big."
Zac Efron Makes First Red Carpet Appearance Since Plastic Surgery Rumors
The "17 Again" actor walked onto the Toronto International Film Festival red carpet on Tuesday, making it his first public appearance since addressing those plastic surgery rumors.
Efron was at the TIFF red carpet to promote his upcoming action comedy film, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever". The film takes place in November 1967 and Efron portrays a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who snuck into Vietnam during the height of the war.
Stepping out onto the red carpet was huge for Efron as the actor revealed he struggles with agoraphobia, which is an anxiety disorder that involves the fear of going into crowded spaces or even sometimes leaving their own home.
"I just don't go out," Efron said, according to Men's Health. "People in large groups, it triggers my agoraphobia."
Despite suffering from agoraphobia, Efron continues to push himself. "If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do," he said, "I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work."
"The Greatest Beer Run Ever" is a 2022 American biographical action comedy film co-written and directed by Peter Farrelly based on the book of the same name. The film stars Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, and Bill Murray and will be released on September 30, 2022 only on Apple TV+.
