Who is Ahsoka Tano? 'The Clone Wars' Season 7 Promises to Fill in Gaps for this 'Star Wars' Fan Favorite

Star Wars has a habit of telling its stories out of order. Even back in 1977, the very first Star Wars film A New Hope was actually billed as "Episode IV." Since then, George Lucas has offered his prequel trilogy (Episodes I-III) while Disney has finally finished its own "sequel trilogy" with Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

In between these big event movies, however, fans have arguably found more enjoyment in the smaller tales told through other Star Wars media, such as novels, comics, or television series such as the live action space western The Mandalorian or the acclaimed animated series The Clone Wars which introduced the fan-favorite character Ahsoka Tano.

Surprisingly, Ahsoka technically made her debut on film in the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars computer animated movie. Actually the first three episodes of The Clone Wars, the film proved unpopular with critics, but fans were intrigued by the introduction of Ahsoka, a 14-year-old alien Torguta girl who was assigned to Anakin Skywalker as his Padawan apprentice.

Voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Ahsoka exhibited a spirited, often snarky personality. She nicknamed her Jedi Master "Sky Guy" and frequently questioned or outright disobeyed his orders. This left the future Darth Vader often perplexed as he basically had to become a parent long before Luke or Leia were even born.

Over the next six seasons of The Clone Wars, audiences saw Ahsoka grow up and form a strong bond with Anakin as they fought in the Clone Wars together. Granted the rank of General, Ahsoka frequently had to make life-or-death decisions as she led her clone troopers against the opposing droid army. Her experiences frequently darkened but did not dampen her spirits, turning her into a seasoned Jedi-in-training.

Ahsoka's relationship with Anakin also helped add depth to his character. While the Anakin Skywalker played by Hayden Christensen in the live action Star Wars movies was often criticized for being whiny and childish, the Anakin of The Clone Wars (voiced by Matt Lucas) exhibited a more mature attitude for the benefit of Ahsoka. By showing Anakin give Ahsoka advice and encouragement, viewers finally saw the heroic Anakin of Star Wars legend.

The final episodes of The Clone Wars Season Six saw Ahsoka's life take a dark turn. Accused of murder, Ahsoka became a fugitive from the Jedi Order she had once been a part of. Although Anakin was able to clear her, Ahsoka became disillusioned with the Jedi and chose to walk away from the Order.

An older Ahsoka later turned up in the Star Wars animated series Rebels. Here, Ahsoka aided the newborn Rebel Alliance in its fight against the Empire. Her efforts eventually brought her in conflict with Darth Vader (voiced by James Earl Jones and Matt Lucas) and the horrifying revelation that he was her master and friend Anakin.

Although Ahsoka survived at the end of Star Wars: Rebels, her next "appearance" was in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker as a disembodied voice (again played by Eckstein) heard by Rey along with the spirits of other dead Jedi. This led to debate among the fans and even some of the movies' creators over whether or not Ahsoka had finally died and become one with the Force.

While Ahsoka's final fate has not been shown, fans can finally see a large portion of her lost years in The Clone Wars Season 7. This new (and final) season promises to show what Ahsoka has been doing since she left the Jedi Order. Audiences can also see her reunite with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi - a momentous occasion since this may be the last time they fight alongside each other before joining with the Force.
