Meghan McCain is clapping back at Sherri Shepherd following an online incident involving the movie star shading the former "The View" co-host on a live broadcast.

In a recent interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live," McCain spoke about the occurrence, pointing out that she was possibly targeted for publicity of Shepherd's new show.

Cohen recalled his chat with Shepherd where he asked her who in "The View" she remained in contact with, and she replied saying all the co-hosts except McCain. He wondered if the twosome had had beef in the past, which appeared not to be so as the 37-year-old author told him she was not as familiar with Shepherd as people thought. She said:

"I mean, look, I don't know Sherri Shepherd; she was on the show, like, 15 years before me, when I was in high school. So, I don't know why anyone's under the impression that we're close friends."

The TV star further expressed her thoughts on the "Sherri" star's shade: "I think she has a new show coming out. She's looking for publicity. A really easy way to get publicity is to try and fight with me." McCain was in no mood to fight with Shepherd, and she voiced so, adding that she only tended to "fight more with people like Kari Lake," an Arizona politician and those running for governor of Arizona. She further shared:

"The thing that makes me the most sad about it is "The View" is really hard. And I think anyone who's done it knows how hard it is."[sic]

The television personality then pointed out the "toxic mean girl reputation" that all daytime talk shows embraced, including "The View." She believed it was unnecessary as there was "no need to be nasty," also wishing it "would all just stop." McCain referred back to Shepherd's insult and revealed that it was not the first time such had happened. She had been targeted severally when she was on "The View" and even after.

The brilliant columnist did not comprehend why she was a target and why anyone would have the notion that she and Shepherd were intimate friends. Even so, she was not so bothered as she had never thought about the comedian. However, she believed it was "nasty" and "a very strange way" for Shepherd to begin her new talk show by trashing someone.

McCain saw the upcoming program as "light and positive for women," but given the actress' insult, she may not have the same notion. She also noted that she was being targeted particularly as "the ultimate mean girl, bad girl" out of the other "The View" alumni who Shepherd said were getting along.

Regarding Shepherd throwing shade at McCain, an Instagram update on the "Watch What Happens Live" feed showed details of the incident, tagging McCain, Shepherd, and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. The "Less than Perfect" star was asked who she was closest to from "The View," and she said everybody was family, quickly adding, "not Meghan."

Her response evidently implied she and The Daily Beast writer were not on good terms. The post's caption also hinted so as it read, "#TheView alum Sherri Shepherd shares she still keeps in touch with every former co-host except Meghan McCain."

The McCain Blogette Blogger Has No Beef With Sunny Hostin Of 'The View'

While McCain may be labeled as the mean girl, she still keeps in contact with only one of "The View's" co-hosts, Sunny Hostin, who she credits as "one of the greatest TV presences in all of television." As The Blast reported, she opened up on the "Reality with The King" podcast about why she regards Hostin highly, thereby revealing she had no relationship with any of the other co-hosts.

The Daily Mail columnist mentioned that the ABC specialist had a degree of curiosity that was not present in other stars on the program. She expressed her love and respect for Hostin and said her former co-worker was a "really good person" who did not "demonize" her as many others did.

Fans may recall that McCain's time on "The View" was not so rosy as she had clashes with several co-hosts. However, she claimed to have moved on from that and did not watch the show anymore.
