"You" Hit Singer Jesse Powell Has Passed Away At 51. The R&B sensation passed at his Los Angeles home.
Jesse Powell Shot To Fame In 1999
The Gary, Indiana native shot to fame in 1999 with his hit song “You”. A funny fact, the song was actually on his 1996 album but didn’t catch on until ’99 when he and his record label decided to take a chance and release the song as a single.
“You” debuted at no.14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and made it to No. 10. It also made it No.2 on the Billboard R&B chart.
Jesse Powell’s Sister’s Released A Statement
The family of Powell have come together to release a statement on his behalf. Fellow R&B singers, Trina and Tamara Powell said of their brother’s passing. "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.”
She went on to share a bit about this passing. ”He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home. The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn the tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.
Grammy winner Tamra Powell continued. “Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him.”

Jesse Powell’s Cause Of Death Hasn’t Been Announced
Tamara Powell’s statement was touching and sentimental. She did not share the cause of her brother’s passing however, she did continue to celebrate her brother’s life by sharing another post honoring him.
This time, she shared a video of the singer performing his hit song. She captioned the video, “That voice,” before going into another touching tribute to her older brother.
“Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever. I loved you so much. 🥺 I'm thankful that we were so close; a whole mess all the time. 😅🍃💨 We absolutely adored you "Jet" & our family will not be the same without you.”

In addition to his family sending love and sharing memories of Powell, the fans shared words of condolences and their favorite memories associated with his popular hit.
“He had a one of the most beautiful voices ever . 🔥🔥I was just binge watching his songs on YouTube this summer . he will be missed 🙏🏾,” shared one follower of Tamara.
“I’m sitting here so stuck and in utter disbelief! I have loved Jesse’s talent and voice since day ONE! I had been praying that he would just do one more album…one more tour. We needed his voice. Sending prayers, love, and hugs to all the Powell family,” wrote another.

A few fellow celebrities have shared their condolences to the Powell family. Gospel powerhouse Cheryl Pepsii writes, “My God! I’m so very sorry to hear this! My Deepest Condolences 🙏🏽😔🙏🏽”
R&B powerhouse Deborah cox sent love as well along with a cute memory. “Deep condolences 💐 to you and the family. What a gentleman and sweet soul. I remember we had a promo gig in St. Louis and he saaaaaang dowwwwwn!!! Whew!! What a voice!!”
Powell never had children of his own, he is survived by his siblings and nieces and nephews.
