With Season 18 of ‘The Voice’ now underway it appears that fans are getting a glimpse of how the coaches will be interacting with multinational pop star Nick Jonas. In the first episode alone, singer Kelly Clarkson mentioned to Jonas how his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra, is a decade older than him, seemingly criticizing the pair for having what she deemed as a large age gap.
In an interaction with the first artist of the season, Jonas clapped back at Clarkson’s comments about age.
Jonas and Chopra were wed back in 2018 over multiple ceremonies, both traditional and not. The wedding proceedings garnered massive media attention, a lot of which was focused on the fact that Chopra is ten years older than Jonas.
The heckling didn’t seem to affect Chopra or Jonas though, and when speaking to Vogue about their relationship, the actress commented something to the contrary of the age claims, saying, “I call him my Old Man Jonas,” referencing his affinity for house slippers.
In an interview with Today, Chopra spoke to her husband’s merit, both as a man and as a musician.
When speaking about his mentorship of other artists, the actress said, “It’s super exciting. I think Nick just needs to be himself, which he’s going to,” she said. “He knows about music so much. He’s literally been a music prodigy since he was 7-years-old, so I think it’ll be amazing to see him working with new musicians and adding to that.”
For the premier of season 18 of ‘The Voice,’ singer Todd Tilghman, a pastor and a father of eight, was the first to perform in front of the show’s hosts. After his performance, all four judges turned their chairs in approval, speaking highly of his work.
Jonas commented to the pastor, “I’m a PK so I’m actually a pastor’s kid. My most fond memories were with my dad at the piano singing praise and worship songs.”
The ‘Sucker’ performer then said, “Do you know Phillips, Craig, and Dean?”
Tilghman said he did and Jonas began singing their music on the spot, prompting Clarkson to say, “I love that you pulled out Phillips, Craig, and Dean,” after cheering on his impromptu performance.
She followed it up with, “I know, but, like I’m a decade older than you.” To which Jonas retorted, “My wife is 37. It’s cool,” which prompted cheers from the audience.
This is not the first time someone has commented on Jonas’ age since he joined the show, fellow judge Blake Shelton also jokingly threw in his two cents, commenting, “I’m going to have to look through the rules because this is my TV show. I’m not even sure if you’re old enough to be a coach on The Voice, but I’m certain that you’re going to get your butt kicked, buddy.”
