Singer Britney Spears is walking back comments that she made about Christina Aguilera on Instagram on Monday night.

In addition to calling out the "Hurt" singer's backup dancers, Britney also shared a photo that many criticized for body-shaming. However Britney meant it, by Tuesday morning, Christina had unfollowed Britney on social media, so it's clear that she took some offense to the "Toxic" singer's comments.

In an Instagram post shared on Monday, September 12, Britney shared a picture quote attributed to Rodney Dangerfield, reading, "I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people."

"I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small ???… I mean why not talk about it ??" Britney wrote in the caption, although it's still not clear why Britney named the "Genie In A Bottle" singer in particular.

"Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!!" she wrote. "It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!!"

"Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about ??? !!!" she added. Many criticized her post, with one fan clearly telling her, "This one is a no."

In another Instagram post shared on Tuesday afternoon, the “Hold Me Closer” singer clarified comments that she made about Christina and her dancers.

“By no means was I being critical of Christina’s beautiful body, it is what it is !!!” Britney wrote. “I flew to see her show once and the main thing I noticed was the difference of our people on stage !!! By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post !!! I was inspired by her show and she is a beautiful woman of power … Thank you @xtina for inspiring me !!!”

“To be honest, I’m not trying to be critical of anybody,” she continued. “What I posted is a projection of the insecurities I deal with all the time as a result of how my parents and the media have treated me … I would never intentionally body shame anybody because I know what it feels like.”

“I struggle with this because of how I feel about myself, not because I hate how anybody looks,” she went on. “I feel like my family knew I was insecure and people were trying to purposefully feed into this insecurity by not letting me have a choice in the people who were on stage with me. I appreciate you all being understanding with me as I figure out this new life I’m living !!!”

Fans Show Support For Britney Spears Over Christina Aguilera 'Misunderstanding'

Many fans showed support for Britney, including an account that backs up all of her Instagram posts. They wrote, “❤️❤️❤️ I understand that sometimes you can be misunderstood! Your clarifications matter.” However, not everyone was so understanding. “If you support Britney you won’t enable her when she is wrong,” another user replied. “It’s not good for anybody.”

“Don’t worry, Britney. Your true fans knows you didn’t mean any harm in that post ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” another follower wrote. “Spoken like a true Queen ?,” another fan chimed in. However, some fans were quick to point out that her comments about Christina Aguilera weren’t the only reason why people took offense to the post.

“But Britney the quote on the photo is really wrong still,” another user commented. Although one user replied, “Exactly,” another noted, “The quote is from a comedian. It is intended to be taken lightly and in humor.”

At this time, it's still unclear if Britney Spears and the "Lady Marmalade" singer have made amends, but it's likely that Britney reached out privately to apologize and the two have since made up... that's what fans seem to be hoping, anyway!
