Batman is certainly a staple among the superhero genre. Perhaps the reason why people are so attached to this caped crusader is the fact that he’s such a relatable character. Though Bruce Wayne was rich, he has experienced hardships at an early age. He lost his parents and had to come to the realization that the city he lived in was corrupt beyond belief. A lot of people envision themselves as the hero to bring peace to the society they’re in. Perhaps Batman embodies that very imagination.
When people see the Batarang, they immediately get hyped as he inspires viewers. Earlier, we were introduced to just a small leak of Robert Pattinson wearing the bat suit. Now just recently, we have been given a full reveal of Pattinson’s stunt double in the bat suit riding the bat bike. Unlike Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the bat suit, the design is more sleek and flexible. Snyder was inspired by Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ comic book adaptation. He even used the fact that Batman was much older as a plot point to films like ‘Justice League.’
Though Snyder’s suit appealed to many fans of the comics, it didn’t sit well with some of the others in the audience. After all, practicality is important. In some of the scenes, Ben Affleck was in while wearing the suit, we could see how difficult it could be to maneuver in. Batman is a master of martial arts and needs flexibility to properly execute his hand-to-hand moves. Christopher Nolan from the Dark Knight Trilogy understood this well as he took the concept of the suit’s functionality into account in the Dark Knight with Christian Bale as Batman.
Matt Reeves appears to understand this concept as well as he went for a modern, armored look. The design is very similar to ‘Batman: Year One,’ which makes sense, given that it was announced that this adaptation would take place as Bruce Wayne’s second year as Batman. Though the suit is embedded with armored plates, the stunt double doesn’t seem to struggle to move while in it. More flexibility will allow for cooler action scenes, not compromising looks for function. This small detail is extremely important.
Batman is all about using every resource at his disposal to make him better at fighting crime. If the detail in this reveal alone is a window for things to come, fans may be satisfied with its scheduled release in 2021. When it comes to a hero with no powers, every practical and realistic detail is vital. A flexible and armored suit will allow him to fight and repel firearms in action scenes. As we approach closer to the next year, we can only speculate what’s in store for Robert Pattinson, becoming the next guardian of Gotham city.
