Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s decision to step back as senior royals and split their time between North America and the UK has certain drawn some criticism, with many unfairly placing the blame squarely on Markle.
British television personality and the Daily Mail’s editor-at-large Piers Morgan is one of her most outspoken critics, most recently tweeting:
“The staggering disrespect these two keep showing to the Queen is outrageous. Who the hell do they think they are?”
He’s not alone, and now Prince Charles‘ biographer is speaking up.
While he was a guest on Good Morning Britain, writer Tom Bower went off on the Sussexes after they released the latest statement about their changing duties, leveling most of his ire against Meghan.
“The statement was really spiteful fury from Meghan — What Meghan wants Meghan gets.
It was rude to the queen. What is spiteful is, she married into the royal family not that long ago and she bailed out. But she wants to bail out on her terms. What is most important for this country is to protect the reputation of the royal family. What you’ve really got is this couple being led by Meghan [who] wants to commercialize the royal family.”
Should Harry and Meghan drop 'Royal' from their branding?
Writer Tom Bower believes they should fall in line with the Queen's decision.
Journalist @afuathescot thinks the couple will attract criticism no matter what they do.

Journalist Afua Adom and host Susanna Reid pointed out that Markle had her own successful career and life before meeting Harry, but Bower was adamant that Harry was being “led by Meghan.”
“It’s the truth. She has a whole life, a whole career of commercial exploitation of herself. She has absolutely no status apart from being attached to the royal family.
“If she wasn’t married into the royal family she couldn’t have set up a charity, she couldn’t start marketing Meghan’s footwear and all the rest of it.”
He also claimed that the press turned against Meghan because of “the hypocrisy,” despite the fact that the British press has been absolutely abhorrent in their treatment of Markle even before she and Harry married.
Bower absolutely wouldn’t let it go, claiming that Markle had changed her tune once they started to do real work for the Crown.
“At the beginning, she threw herself in it. She started campaigning for the environment and then she took all these private jets. When she didn’t tell the truth about Archie’s birth. When she tried to deliberately confuse people about the time of the birth… If they do anything to damage the 93-year-old sovereign of this wonderful country, they have got to start questioning themselves. It’s a selfish, victim-like approach to the world.”
