Lily Tomlin is on the circuit at the Toronto International Film Festival but she still took the time to update inquiring minds about her friend and fellow actress Jane Fonda who recently revealed she is battling cancer.
Jane Fonda Is Fighting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Fonda, 84 revealed to her fans at the beginning of September that for the last six months she has been kicking cancers ass! The Blast shared Fonda’s IG post addressing the diagnosis. “So, my dear friends, I have something personal I want to share. I’ve been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and have started chemo treatments,” she writes.
Before she allowed fans to get too worked up, she quickly reminded them that time and a “treatable” cancer is on her side.“This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky.”
The dear woman even put her own treatment aside to acknowledge that she is lucky as a celebrity to be able to receive the best treatment possible.

Lily Tomlin Is Optimistic
Tomlin noted that her best friend of over forty years is a force to be reckoned with. “She’s very forthright and talkative about what’s going on with her in all respects,” said Tomlin, 83. “First thing, she says, ‘Don’t worry, it’s really treatable. It’s one of the most treatable forms that you could possibly have, so I’m really lucky in that regard,’” echoed Tomlin of her friend’s words.
She went on to share that Fonda is looking at the positive side of her diagnosis. “She’s like, ‘So are you gonna come to my next fundraiser?'” Tomlin says “That’s her main objective.”
Fonda certainly isn’t letting this diagnosis get her down.
Jane Is Taking It Day By Day
Fonda shared that her treatments can be rough at times but she is hanging in there and most importantly “handling the treatments quite well.” She prefers to see cancer as a “teacher” and is taking this lesson very seriously.
Cancer has shown her “the importance of community.” Tomlin is part of that community. The actors have been working together since the 70s in hits like 9 To 5 all the way up to Grace & Frankie on Netflix.
Tomlin is representing both the women at TIFF this year as Fonda was unable to make it for obvious reasons.

Another Film Under Their Belt
The women appear in a movie together the year called Moving On. The film follows two estranged friends who are forced to reunite when their mutual friend passes away. The duo suspects their friend's widower of wrongdoing and goes about exposing him.
It is, of course, a comedy because these women can’t help but be hilarious together. Not only do they enjoy working together, but they also get to choose projects that are important to them.
Grace & Frankie is one of them. "We both have been told by women who have faced terrible things that watching ‘Grace and Frankie’ has kept their head above water, given them hope,” said Fonda about the Emmy-nominated show.
Overall Tomlin calls her friend “indomitable” and is just in awe of her resilience
