Blue Ivy Carter Just Made History As The Youngest Person To Win An NAACP Award

If ever you needed further proof that Blue Ivy Carter is the blossoming protege of both Beyonce and Jay-Z, last night gave it up in spades. The 8-year-old mini mogul won her very first NAACP award last night, adding more proof that she is more like her parents than we all initially realized. As winners of the Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration award, Blue Ivy and mom, Beyonce, won for the track “Brown Skin Girl” for the 2019 soundtrack of the live-action remark of The Lion King.

This isn’t the first time that Blue Ivy Carter and her mom collaborated before, however. Blue Ivy has appeared on a few different tracks with her parents over the years including the songs “Blue”, “Glory, and “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.” “Brown Skin Girl” however, allowed Blue Ivy to sing in the chorus, yielding her very first NAACP award. The track itself also features help from Saint Jhn and Wizkid, but Blue Ivy also received a nod for her songwriting credit for the song, too!

Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles-Lawson, even took to social media last night to praise her granddaughter on a historic win. Lawson went on to write, “Congratulations BLUE IVY on your NAACP award last night for singing and writing on ‘Brown Skin Girl’ from the Album The Gift. The youngest artist to win a major award. Grandma is soo proud of you. 8 years old!!!! You are giving all the beautiful little brown girls a voice." An adorable note from a proud grandma, couldn't be much sweeter than that.

The family wins didn’t just stop there though, despite a history-making award being all you would need to call it a successful night, right? Beyonce took home a whole slew of trophies from the award-show, not just for her work on The Lion King but also for her groundbreaking documentary on Netflix, Homecoming. Queen Bey took home awards in the categories of Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album for The Lion King: The Gift, Outstanding Live Album for Homecoming: The Live Album, and Outstanding Female Artist, to name a few.

So, what’s next for the 8-year-old, you ask, after this history-making win? Only time will tell. But to be this young, winning a major category award at the NAACP awards, great things are in store. Perhaps this win will solidify the young star’s place within the music scene, and maybe we’ll get to see Blue Ivy follow in the footsteps of her famous parents making music history for many years to come. To be only 8-years-old and racking up these accomplishments, the sky is the limit for this young lady.
