Chelsea Clinton Believes Ivanka Trump ‘Went To The Dark Side’
When asked about her relationship with Ivanka, Chelsea referred to it as something of the past. “I would say we were friends,” she said, “She’s not the person I called when I was curious about something for my kids or if I was debating a life decision, but we were definitely friends.” “And then she went to the dark side,” she added.

As per the New York Post, Chelsea also opened up about her reservations about Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, who allegedly lied against her in his book “Breaking History.” In the new book, Kushner wrote that Ivanka asked Chelsea to have dinner with her. This alleged invitation came shortly after the 2016 election, in which Hilary Clinton lost to Donald Trump.
Recalling the encounter, Chelsea admitted she “spoke to Ivanka” in 2016. However, the 41-year-old didn’t remember “being invited to dinner.” While they have now cut ties, their friendship was once admired and talked about by many fans.
They Were Good Friends
This interview wasn’t the first time Chelsea spoke publicly about her friendship with Ivanka. She opened up to People about the relationship in 2015, a year before the election. When asked whether their parents’ plans to both run for the presidency would affect their friendship, she noted that it wouldn’t.
Chelsea said, “friendship is always more important than politics. I learned that growing up, watching my parents be friends with people across the political spectrum in Arkansas.” Many fans supported Chelsea as she was friends with Ivanka years before their parents planned to contest against each other.
Some months before the election, Chelsea confirmed that they were still “very close” friends. She said, “We have a great relationship.” She also praised 40-year-old Ivanka for her kind and caring nature, saying, “She’s always aware of everyone around her and ensures that everyone is enjoying the moment.”
The star also revealed that Ivanka reminded her of her father with their similar “ability to increase the joy of the room.” Fans wondered why they stopped being friends after such a good time together.
Why They Stopped Being Friends
Four years after the tribute, Chelsea changed her mind about the friendship. She told Andy Cohen in a 2020 interview that she no longer wanted to be friends with Ivanka. When Cohen asked why she noted how disappointed she was in her for supporting her father’s administration.
At the time, Ivanka was the Senior Advisor to her father, the then President of America. She was also working as the director of the Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship at the White House.
According to Chelsea, she and Ivanka were “in touch at the beginning of the campaign” although it was difficult for them with Ivanka’s father Trump in the picture. She said “but it’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate, whether it’s their father or not, who is trafficking in racism and sexism and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies and is so fundamentally corrupt.”
Chelsea Clinton Dislikes Ivanka Trump’s Father
Chelsea explained that the campaign put a strain on their relationship. She found it hard to remain friends with Ivanka when she was strongly against her father. She said, “I have no interest in being friends with someone who is not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration’s everyday collision of cruelty and incompetence.”
While the two are no longer friends, Chelsea is focusing on promoting her new docuseries “Gusty” with her mom. The series is based on the writer’s bestselling novel “Gutsy Women” released in 2019. The show, which premiered on September 9, 2022, will feature celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion, Kim Kardashian, and Kate Hudson.
