The Matchmaker Behind Paul McCartney and His Wife

Nancy Shevell and Paul McCartney go back a long way, having first met almost 30 years ago in the Hamptons. They both had homes in the eastern Long Island, New York seaside community that's known for being a summer destination to many of New York City's affluent residents. Their romance began with a series of low-profile meetings in 2007, a few months after Paul's separation from his second wife Heather Mills. He was, of course, married to his true love Linda Eastman from 1969 until she died from breast cancer in 1998.

It seems as though Paul McCartney likes being married and he always has needed a soulmate. The former Beatle has been married three times and is known for singing 'You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs. But I look around me and I see it isn't so. Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.' He was poking fun at himself on the track 'Silly Love Songs', but he - and we, all knew he was singing the truth. 'And what's wrong with that?'

The couple was together for 29 years, during all of which they were practically inseparable, and they had three children together. Rolling Stone reported that during this time, Paul and Linda only spent ten nights apart, when McCartney was in jail on drug charges for marijuana possession while on tour in 1980. Paul once said that he 'cried for a about year on and off' when Linda died. They formed the band Wings together and were both nominated for an Oscar for their song 'Live and Let Die', the theme for the 1973 James Bond film of the same name.

Very unlike the romantic and intimate affair that was their wedding, Paul McCartney's four-year marriage to Heather Mills ended as one of the most historically public, inflammatory and explosive divorces to go on record. They were married on June 11, 2002, on the grounds of a remote castle in Glaslough, Ireland. After several years, the two sought to end the marriage on good terms, but matters quickly took a turn for the worse and the already ugly and highly publicized divorce ended with Mills receiving more than $30 million.

It's been rumored that Shevell’s second cousin, Barbara Walters, thought that here may be a love in the air between Paul and Nancy, so she threw parties assuring both were in attendance. About to marry, Nancy offered to sign a prenup and once again McCartney refused. Paul's mind may have been eased by the fact that Shevell’s net worth is estimated to be about $200 million, as the NYC born and Edison, NJ raised businesswoman and former MTA board member has plays a major role in the family trucking business.
