Mario Lopez Remains Silent On Lark Voorhies Being 'Hurt' Over Reboot Snub, Amid Fans Calling For Boycott

Mario Lopez and Mark-Paul Gosselaar have remained silent about their former “Saved By The Bell” costar Lark Voorhies feeling “hurt” about being excluded from the upcoming reboot.

Earlier this week, Voorhies sat down with Dr. Oz to discuss her feelings about not being asked to reprise her role as Lisa Turtle. The 45-year-old actress read from a journal entry which described her feeling “slighted” for not receiving an invite. She said, “I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of the 'Saved by the Bell' reunion as well as other cast members events.”

She added, “yet of course, I also realized that having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision. With that in mind, I am truly thankful for having had the chance to work on a show that has been so successful."

Following her appearance on Dr. Oz, fans have been supporting Voorhies and calling for a boycott of the “Saved By The Bell” reboot. “LISA TURTLE WAS SAVED BY THE BELL! TF!” said one fan.

Another said, “Y’all acting like y’all don’t know why she wasn’t invited” and ‘That’s lame she was the only Black character EVER. They didn’t even give her Black boyfriend.”

One person argued, “She was the only black person on the show.... TRUST, we’ll know she’s missing.” Another commented, “Why not include her she was a part of the original cast!!!!?”

Despite fans calling for Lopez and Gosselaar to bring back Voorhies, neither has publicly responded to her comments. We’ve reached out to Lopez’ rep but have not heard back from them.

Back in September, NBC announced the reboot of “Saved By The Bell” with Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley on board. The show is set to air on the soon-to-launch streaming platform Peacock.

Berkley is set to reprise her role as Jessie Spano and Lopez will once again be playing A.C. Slater. Recently, it was announced that Mark-Paul Gosselaar closed a deal to return as the iconic character Zach Morris.

NBC released this about the reboot: "When California governor Zack Morris (Time out Governor Zack Morris?! Time in!) gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality."
