'Vanderpump Rules' Star Tom Sandoval Reveals How He Responded To Max Boyens' Racist Twitter Posts

Tom Sandoval was recently accused of doing nothing about Max Boyens' past racist tweets, which surfaced shortly after he made his debut on Vanderpump Rules in January, but according to the TomTom owner and longtime reality star, he and Boyens got into it after he learned what his manager had written on Twitter years ago.

After Jax Taylor slammed Sandoval for failing to fire Boyens in a series of now-deleted tweets on February 19, Sandoval spoke to Us Weekly magazine about what really went down with Boyens at TomTom.

“I hit him up and yelled at him about it. Max is nothing like that,” Sandoval told the magazine.

According to Sandoval, the past posts shared by Boyens on Twitter were in no way a reflection of who he actually is.

“A lot of those tweets, Max comes from an ethnic background. His grandfather fought Muhammad Ali. He’s 100 percent African-American. He’s just was a stupid 19-year-old kid,” Sandoval explained.

Sandoval has been working with Boyens for the past several years and respects his job as manager at his restaurant.

While Sandoval seemed to defend Boyens to the magazine, insisting that he isn't a bad guy, he also told the magazine that he in no way condoned Boyens' statements.

“Even if it was to your friends and you were indirectly trying to be coy and passive aggressive to your friends, you don’t tweet things like that,” Sandoval shared.

In a series of uncovered tweets, Boyens was seen using the N-word and other racially-charged language.

He even poked fun at Asians and said their faces make him want to punch them.

“I want to sincerely apologize for what I tweeted in 2012 — it was wrong on every level,” Boyens said in a statement on January 16. “It is not a representation of who I am. I am shocked I ever tweeted that — and I am disgusted and embarrassed. I am truly sorry.”

Although Boyens received tons of backlash online for the things he was caught saying prior to his apology, he did not lose his job at TomTom or his full-time role on Vanderpump Rules.

In her own statement to Us Weekly magazine, Lisa Vanderpump said she did not condone the heinous comments made in the past by Boyens and is glad he now understands the severity of his offenses and has shown the "utmost remorse and contrition."

"I embrace a community of diversity and do not tolerate bigotry of any form within my workplace,” Vanderpump said.

Vanderpump also spoke about the comments of Brett Caprioni, who also issued an apology after being caught making racially-charged statements on his own Twitter page years ago.
