The 'Real' Deal on the Alleged Beef Between Jeannie Mai and Amanda Seales

Do two cohosts of 'The Real' secretly hate each other? Social media seems to think so after a few on-air spats between cohosts Jeannie Mai and Amanda Seales. While Mai has been with the show since its inception in 2013, Seales is a recent addition to the panel. She joined the daytime gabfest in January, three years after the tumultuous exit of original cohost Tamar Braxton in 2016. Seales has brought an academic perspective to the show that has recently discussed deeper issues compared to the usual lighter fare.

The alleged animosity between the two ladies has boiled over to several noticeable fiery discussions during recent episodes. In one such instance, Mai and Seales sparred over the recent Jussie Smollett sentencing, with Seales taking Smollett's side, arguing that he should not be severely punished for lying about being the victim of a hate crime. Mai said that Smollett needs to reprimanded to maintain the distinction between real and fake crimes. The discussion fell from civility when it appeared Seales rolled her eyes at one of Mai's interjections.

An additional component of the two's supposed feud occurred when The Real cohosts- which also include Adrienne Bailon, Tamara Mowry, and Loni Love- discussed how Martin Luther King Jr. would feel about modern society. Seales- who has a Master's Degree in African American Studies-

centered the conversation around racial injustice and how MLK would not think much has ameliorated. When Mai tried to make a point about declining mental health at-large, Seales ignored the comment and kept speaking as if Mai had not said a word.

The ongoing rumors that Mai and Seales were not getting along must have created enough noise to attract the attention of Seales herself. On a recent Instagram story, Seales cleared the air and said that during discussions about sensitive topics she is passionate about, sometimes it can become heated. Albeit, Seales maintains, it it is nothing personal against Mai. She also said that since she just joined the show as a permanent cohost last month, she is still getting to know her cohosts.

So thus the rumors of a on-set squabble have been squashed, but disagreements are still bound to happen when the show consistently touches on pertinent, serious topics. While 'The Real' has had its share of drama, it still pales in comparison to its ABC counterpart 'The View', which continues to make its own headlines mainly due to the controversial viewpoints of cohost Meghan McCain. Nevertheless, viewers of 'The Real' will undoubtedly keep their eyes peeled for any more signs of infighting between the two outspoken panelists.
