Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been acclimating to civilian life in North America following their decision to relinquish their roles as senior members of the royal family.
However, the process of making this change in their lives is exactly that, a process. It has been reported that Queen Elizabeth has requested for both to return to the United Kingdom one more time to perform their final duties as senior members.
And while Prince Harry has confirmed that he will be returning for several events, the Duchess of Sussex has yet to do so, leading many people to believe that she may snub the queen’s request.
With ‘Megxit’ expecting to become finalized this Spring, the queen has requested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s presence one more time. Royal correspondent, Omid Scobie, shared the report saying, “We have heard from the Palace that their final engagements as working members of the royal family will be taking place in early March.”
It is also being reported that Prince Harry will attend the Mountbatten Festival of Music, just ahead of the Commonwealth Day service, which is being held at Westminister Abbey on March 10th. The music festival is set to take place at Royal Albert Hall, the same place as the BAFTAs, and is expected to last two days.

And while people are clamoring to see Prince Harry, Markle’s presence, perhaps, might be more desired than her husband; however, much doubt lies in if she’ll actually make the trip.
As of the time of this writing, Buckingham Palace has not confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan would be attending any of the events surrounding Commonwealth Day, but they do release a guest list, which has yet to be produced. With that being said, we will at least have confirmation of a formal invitation on the part of the palace.
While the potential snubbing of the queen’s request would be disrespectful to Prince Harry, considering Queen Elizabeth II is his grandmother, it wouldn’t be outside of the realm that Markle doesn’t return citing her own personal reasons, including her and her son’s safety, which could be put in danger by the raucous paparazzi that is sure to try and get their last glimpse of the duchess in the United Kingdom, at least for the near future.
Back in January, a source close to the couple shared with the Daily Mail that Markle would not be returning to the UK for anything ‘meaningful’. “Outside of anything that is being decided between the private offices [the nerve centres of royal operations] and the British and Canadian governments this week, no-one here believes that the duchess will ever really return to the UK in a meaningful way,” they shared.

Still, Markle might join her husband on the trip, at least to appease the family and calm tensions that have undoubtedly been high since their bombshell announcement at the beginning of the year.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait about a month before we actually know if Markle returns to the United Kingdom. Even with Buckingham Palace issuing the guestlist for the series of events, it’s no guarantee that Markle will agree to come. This storyline is sure to develop over the next several weeks.
