Justin Bieber Opens Up About His Tumultuous Relationship With Selena Gomez

While Justin Bieber is happily married to model Hailey Baldwin presently, there was a time when their romance didn't seem quite as promising. In a new interview, Justin opens up about the damage that his nearly decade-long on-and-off relationship with Selena Gomez took on his emotional well-being. The singer even admitted that he felt so damaged from his "reckless" relationship with Selena that he didn't know if he'd be able to be faithful to Hailey -- a shocking revelation to many fans.

Justin and Hailey married in 2019 and have been enjoying life as newlyweds, but this wasn't always the case. In an interview on Apple Music, Justin revealed that he initially told Hailey that he may not be faithful to her in a relationship. "I said, ‘Listen, I’m still really hurt and still trying to figure out my way, and I’m not ready to make a commitment to you in a way that … I just don’t want to say something and do the opposite,'" the singer explained.

When asked what he was particularly hurt from, Justin explained "I think I was just hurt from my previous relationship. I think I still was dealing with a lot of unforgiveness and all that sort of stuff." He also admitted that a lot of the hurt he was going through wasn't completely understandable at the time: "To be honest, I don’t think I even knew what I was really struggling with at the time. I don’t think I knew I was dealing with unforgiveness."

Though Justin was obviously dealing with a lot of emotional issues from his past, he was nonetheless able to overcome them and commit to Hailey. "I felt like she [Hailey] respected me at the time and I had a lot of respect for her, and so I just didn’t want to say something and then she’d see me off doing some other thing." Clearly, the respect between Hailey and Justin was able to blossom into something long-term -- the pair have been married for over a year now!

As for Selena, she's had her fair share of say in the relationship drama as well. She recently admitted that she was a "victim to a certain abuse" during her relationship with Justin, which ultimately led the pair to fully call it quits after eight years of on-and-off. Selena has just dropped her most successful album yet, Rare, which has plenty of songs that detail her recovery from the relationship. Whatever hardships Selena and Justin went through years ago, clearly the two are happy in their own respective lives at this point!
