Amber Heard thinks conversations between Johnny Depp and Harvey Weinstein could be key in her ongoing fight with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star, however, Depp is not willing to give up the info so easily and is fighting from having to produce any of the evidence in discovery.
According to documents obtained by the New York Post, Depp filed a petition on Valentine’s Day to quash a subpoena filed by his ex-wife — which request the now-defunct Weinstein Company to hand over details regarding conversations between the disgraced movie producer and Depp.
Heard wants the discovery for her ongoing $50 million defamation suit with Depp, which is set to go on trial in Virginia.
Heard’s subponea requests any and all “communications between Mr. Depp and Harvey Weinstein,” and keys in on a specific production that Depp and Weinstein teamed up for in 2004.
According to the documents, the petition is interested in anything “concerning any act of violence committed by Mr. Depp during the production or promotion of “The Libertine.”
The Weinstein Company produced flick was generally panned by critics and bombed at the box office, but Heard’s legal team believes there may be some gold they can dig up to help them in their continued fight against Depp.
According to Depp’s petition to quash, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the actor’s legal team argues that Heard’s subpoena is “overbroad and seeks the production of documents that are not properly subject to discovery.”
The timing of Depp’s filing is interesting, as it comes on the heels of leaked audio recently released that showcases a marriage therapy session between Heard and Depp when they were still trying to salvage their relationship. In the audio, obtained by Daily Mail, Heard admits to striking Depp during an argument and then mocks the actor for not being able to handle a physical altercation.
While many fans have turned on Amber Heard since the release of the audiotapes, the “Aquaman” actress is continuing to put on a strong front and make public appearances. She most recently showed up at the Santa Monica Pier for the Film Independent Spirit Awards. While Heard was not nominated for anything, she showed up to support her friend, Elisabeth Moss, who was nominated for the punk-rock drama “Her Smell.”
As Heard arrived, scores of fans greeted her with support and screams of “We love you!” She signed autographs and posed for photos before entering the event.
As for the petition by Depp to quash the subpoena and deny her any communication between himself and Weinstein … that has yet to be decided.
