Reality TV star Christine Brown recently talked about her strong relationship with a fellow "sister wife." Christine is part of a polygamous family with a show on TLC called "Sister Wives."
Kody Brown married Christine in 1994, making her the third of his four wives. Although he is currently only legally married to Robyn Brown, the 53-year-old explained that he felt spiritually married to the rest. Christine had six children while married to Kody.
She first announced her decision to leave the marriage late last year, and the finale of 16 shed more light on the reason behind the decision. According to her, Janelle Brown was the only person who stuck by her and was supportive when she revealed her decision to leave.
Christine Brown Said Janelle Brown Supported Her From The Start
Christine announced her decision to leave her 26-year polygamous marriage to her husband, Kody, in November 2021. The reality star recently talked about her relationship with her sister wives, Meri, Robyn, and Janelle, since she left the marriage.
According to her, she was still close to Janelle, who supported her decision "from the get-go." Christine also shed life on her relationship with Kody post-split, describing it as strained. The TLC star told People Magazine, "I needed more communication, more trust, and I realized we didn't really have a partnership."
The 50-year-old shared she decided to leave the marriage because the relationship seemed unredeemable. When she broke her decision to leave the marriage to her co-wives, Janelle was the only one who reacted emotionally to the news. Christine recalled, "When I told Meri, Robyn, and Janelle, Janelle actually cried. That was so hard. It was not only am I deciding to leave Kody; I was leaving them as well."
Christine Brown Wasn't Close To The Other Wives
The reality star also revealed that she was never really close to Robyn and Meri, and after telling them her decision, they only spoke once more to date. "I hadn't been that close to Robyn," Christine said. "I hadn't been that close to Meri, for years."
The 50-year-old continued, "As soon as I told everybody, [Janelle] was the only person who talked to me afterwards. I didn't even talk to Robyn or Meri after that. The next time I talked to them was Isabelle's graduation party, and then when I told them I was moving, that's the only contact I've had with them."
Christine celebrated her 50th birthday recently and had Janelle among the attendees. She described her as "wonderful" and revealed that the duo remained friends throughout the period.
Since moving away from her plural marriage, Christine started a digital series called "Cooking with Just Christine." The series launched on TLC in February and the next season is set to start airing in November. She currently lives in Salt Lake, Utah.
She Left Kody Brown In November 2021
Christine first made her decision to leave Kody known in a post made on Instagram in November last year. In the statement, the 50-year-old wrote, "After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart, and I have made the difficult decision to leave."
The "Cooking with Just Christine" host continued, "We will continue to be a strong presence in each other's lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family."
The season 17 released trailer of "Sister Wives"' saw Christine talk about her failing marriage with Kody and how "heartbreaking" it felt being his wife. She also revealed that she often thought he was more concerned about Robyn than her. The season will reportedly premiere in September 2022.
Kody Brown Wanted A 'Romance Free' Marriage
The season 16 finale was released in February 2022 and showed Christine when she was still contemplating leaving the marriage. One of the major issues arose when Kody asked the 50-year-old for a "romance-free" marriage. Christine did not take the request well and responded by retracting the reality star's rights to her bedroom.
In the season finale, she said, "The intimate part of our marriage is over. And to be honest, I'm not okay with that. I'm not okay with staying in a marriage where there's no intimacy. That's not a real marriage. I'm not interested in a half marriage or a partial marriage or whatever we have."
When Christine eventually shared her decision to leave the marriage, the other wives looked disturbed by her decision and protested it. Koby, on his part, criticized her for not trying to build a relationship with the rest of the women and claimed her decision was "a knife in the kidney."
Koby wrapped up the trailer of season 17 by saying that the show had taken a different turn than he expected. He said, "The message that we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now."
