Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family last month. They stepped down as senior members and have settled into a reportedly much more quiet and peaceful life in Canada where they are working to become financially independent.
Though the world was shocked by this move, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not quite the palace entirely — they agreed to split their time between the UK and North America. Now they are slated to return to the UK for Commonwealth Day … except sources say Prince Harry is less than happy about the arrangement.
One of the top reasons constantly cited for the move is Prince Harry’s desire to keep his wife, Meghan Markle, and son, Archie Harrison, as safe as possible. Harry has blamed unsafe practices by the British press as a major contributing factor to this decision.
The Duke of Sussex recently opened up about the trauma he is still dealing with following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in a car crash while trying to evade paparazzi. The Sussexes have issued a warning to paparazzi driving recklessly near their home to stay away from their family.
On top of the boundaries broken by eager photographers, Duchess Meghan has been the subject of much criticism and harassment by the British media. The former Suits actor has been maligned in the press for simple actions like touching her own baby bump or eating avocados. Meanwhile, Prince William’s wife, Kate Middleton, generally receives glowing reviews from the media.
Some of the Royals have also been said to be allegedly racist toward Meghan. Princess Michael sparked criticism when she wore a racist piece of jewelry while joining Meghan for lunch.
It’s no wonder the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to create a new life for themselves in Canada, and according to most reports, the decision has proven to be a very good one for the couple.
Meghan is said to be much more relaxed in her new environment and is happy practicing yoga and cooking for her family. She and Harry go on long walks with Archie and their dogs and the Duke occasionally brings home sandwiches from local shops.
Despite all the progress being made in Canada, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to the UK next month to participate in Commonwealth services. The Queen reportedly hopes for the family to put their differences aside long enough to get through the festivities.
Unfortunately, sources say Prince Harry isn’t too keen on returning to the palace so soon. It is said he is still upset about the way Meghan was treated in England and that he holds a grudge over the Royal Family for not protecting his wife.
