Beverly Broadus-Green: Snoop Dogg's Mom, and the Woman Behind His Apology

Train up a child the way he should go,right? Who among us has never strayed away from mama's teachings, especially once we've left the nest and labeled ourselves as grown? Snoop Dogg included. The now famous question posed to former WNBA player Lisa Leslie by Gayle King after the untimely death of Kobe Bryant caused emotions to rise and tempers to flare. Again, Snoop's included.

Snoop's Twitter formed tongue-lashing against King created a backlash of comments. Some attacking him. Some attacking her. The rapper has since apologized to Gayle King.

In a February 12 Instagram video post, the Drop It Like Its Hot rapper issued a public apology to 'CBS This Morning' co-host Gayle King after revealing that his mother Beverly Broadus-Green inspired him to make heartfelt amends to King.

Snoop begins his statement with: "Big Snoop Dog coming at you live and direct with a message. Two wrongs don't make no right. When you're wrong, you gotta fix it. So with that being said: Gayle King, I publicly tore you down by coming at you in a derogatory manner based off of emotions...me being angry at questions that you asked.

"Ummm, overreacted. Should have handled it way different than that. I was raised way better than that. So, I would like to apologize to you publicly for the language that I used and calling you out of your name and just being disrespectful."

Snoop continued his apology: "I didn't mean for it to be like that. I was just expressing myself for a friend that wasn't here to defend himself. It's OK to man up and say that you're wrong. I apologize. Hopefully we can sit down and talk privately. Have a good day."

He included a caption which read: "Had a talk with my momma thank u mamma. 2 wrongs don't make it right time to heal. @gayleking Peace n love Praying for u and your family as well as Vanessa and the kids."

Born Beverly Tate in McComb, Mississippi, Beverly Broadus-Green is the 68-year-old mother of four sons, including hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg. Broadus-Green has been an ordained evangelist since 2005 and is the co-founder of YouthBloc, a non-profit organization created to teach young people life and business skills. Her husband Howard Green died in 2005.

Hard to believe Snoop has a religious background? Well, he did say he sang in the church growing up and she is a praying mama and grandmother.

Beverly Broadus-Green once said she always knew her son Snoop would do something extra-ordinary in life because he always kept the family laughing. And while her boys may call her Beverly, she says they know she is their mother and not their friend. As for any guesses as to which child was the most difficult to raise, Broadus-Green had this to say:

"Snoop was the child that I had the most trouble with. He was hard-headed. He was the type of little guy who thought he knew more than me. I had to let him know who I was. When Snoop became famous, I told him that I didn't even know what a rapper was."

The former chef said Snoop is like a little kid when she visits, sitting up under her. Already the matriarch of four sons and six grandkids, it was the "Dogg Father's" son Corde who made Broadus-Green a great-grandma for the first time.
