Drew Barrymore Slammed As RACIST For... 'Frolicking' In The Rain?
By Favour Adegoke on August 29, 2022 at 5:00 PM EDT
In a surprising turn of events, actress Drew Barrymore was recently accused of being racist after posting a video of herself frolicking in the rain. The 47-year-old previously posted a video of herself in a rainstorm and advised her followers to do the same occasionally. Barrymore posted a similar video in May.
In an earlier interview, the actress revealed that she particularly enjoyed getting under the rain because it made her feel free and, for those minutes, not worry about anything.
According to a TikTok user who called her out, Barrymore's attempt to frolic and post the video was racist to black content creators. She said the "The Drew Barrymore Show" host's video would open the floodgates of people who would disrespect black creators.
Read on to learn more about the bizarre accusation.
Drew Barrymore Was Accused Of Racism For Enjoying The Rain
MEGAA TikTok user accused Barrymore of being racist after the "Charlie's Angels" actress posted a clip of herself in the rain. According to the annoyed social media user, the talk show host intentionally copied a trend started by Black Americans named "black men frolicking."
The trend was reportedly started this year by Black American TikTok content creators. The TikTok user accused the "50 First Dates" actress of behaving in a similar manner to a "colonizer."
In the unexpectedly controversial clip, the "Never Been Kissed" actress looked ecstatic while she moved in the rain. She wore a pair of glasses, had a broad smile, and told her over 6 million followers to "go out into the rain" whenever they had the chance. Barrymore added, "Do not miss the opportunity."

TikTok user, @amushroomblackly, who has been banned from the platform, started the video by criticizing the 47-year-old for posting the video online in the first place. She said, "You and I both know you are capable of enjoying the rain, frolicking freely, without filming it and posting it to TikTok."
The offended social media user claimed that Barrymore's move approved of people that would usually "go out of their way to disrespect and dismiss the boundaries that black creators have set." She pointed to the camera as she said, "And now you're one of those people."
The offended person concluded the video with, "'I guess my question would be why is it so important to all of you to treat us like we don't matter?" The trend the TikToker mentioned showed several Black American men running around and seemingly having the best time in a number of places.
Fans Of Drew Barrymore Came To Her Defense
The first video that started the trend was reportedly released in May and posted by a handle on TikTok called @thexsadxoptimistic. The user was shown laughing and running across a field while saying, "oh my god, I'm running through a field frolicking! "Several other TikTok users joined the trend with their own version of the frolicking video, something the app is known for.

In response to the recent post made by the offended TikTok user, several hundred fans of Barrymore defended the 47-year-old, claiming no trace of racism in the video. Some went on to admonish people that paid attention to social media users "desperate for views" instead of focusing on other important matters.
One comment stated, "I still don't understand why that woman is mad at Drew Barrymore? Never been so confused in my life. Is enjoying rain racist?" Another wrote, "I genuinely have no idea what this lady is talking about."

A user made sure to point out the fact that the claim was made by only one black woman and that there is no sense in attacking Black people (and black content creators especially) for the random accusation.
The twitter user wrote, "It’s wild how ONE person can make a video on the internet and people get so in their fefe’s. Black people did not call Drew Barrymore racist. One black lady did. Please leave black people out of this.
The Offended TikTok User Doubled Down
In response to the backlash, the offended TikTok user did not let up and accused people of being "reactionary." She also revealed that she did not particularly feel bad about Barrymore's tough childhood. The TikTok user said, "Aw, poor Drew had a hard childhood, said the white woman to the black woman."
She doubled down on her previous comment about the 47-year-old's video enabling people to disrespect Black American content creators. The user also claimed that her opinion was being dismissed in favor of Barrymore and concluded the second video with, "'this is ridiculous, ya'll are so reactionary... I said what I said."
In an interview with People Magazine, Barrymore talked about how she always wanted to "have a little baptism from Mother Nature and be free and not worried for a second" whenever she saw the rain. The actress added that for her, the rain was a "signal for me to let go and stop overthinking everything."
