Celebs Are Reacting To Viral Instagram Location Warning: What's Going On?

Instagram is making headlines regarding a recent viral message warning users to be aware of the app's ability to determine their exact location.

Now, as viral sensations tend to achieve, celebrities are now weighing and chiming in on the situation.

Yesterday, the master of birthday-friendly club bangers himself, 50 Cent, alerted his Instagram following to the news, and the comment section of his post has exploded with fans and celebrities alike pondering and debating Instagram's latest privacy conundrum. So, what gives?

50 Cent posted a screenshot of a warning giving the low-down on Instagram's alleged ability to track an iPhone user's precise location.

The post reads, "If you have an iPhone, listen up! After a recent IOS update, people can now find your exact location from Instagram! For example: if you put the location tag of 'Salt Lake City' It will show you your exact location vs. general location. There are allegedly stalkers and criminals using this feature to find people and break into homes & cars."

The comment section of 50's post was soon filled with commentary from users, including many comments from verified figures.

"Raising Kanan" actor KT Borderline commented "Facts" on the post, and hip-hop artist Flash Garments chimed in with "Yeah no more tagging the location" with a laughing emoji.

One public figure, however, isn't laughing about the idea.

Conservative commentator (and friend of 50 Cent), Tomi Lahren, commented "Big brother is watching."

Her comment has 60 likes as of this writing.

Boxer Ava Knight also joined in on the conversation discussing the concept of users being allegedly taken advantage of and robbed through the tactic of tracking a user's location with Instagram's "help."

Knight wrote, "VICE did a story on how these guys rob "influencers" cause they go live and you can see exactly where they are at the moment. That's how those 60sum old men robbed Kim Kardashian," she commented, along with a laughing emoji.

Of course, many users believe viral content that has gained a strong amount of attraction on social media should be taken with a grain of salt.

Multiple outlets have reported the latest Instagram privacy concern is nothing we haven't encountered before.

Instagram has responded to the concern as well.

According to Tech Radar, Instagram's PR team took to Twitter to clear up any confusion.

Their thread begins, "We've seen a meme going around about how Instagram uses 'precise location.''

The thread goes on to say "To be clear, we don't share your location with others. Similar to other social media companies, we use precise locations for things like location tags and map features..."

The third and final tweet says "People can manage Location Services via their device settings and tag locations on their post if they want to share that information."
