Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton: How They Became a Hollywood Power Couple

Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton have quickly become a favorite celebrity couple for their constant support of each other, aversion to drama, and fashionable sensibilities. After Malek thanked Boynton in nearly every acceptance speech he gave for his Bohemian Rhapsody-related awards last year, they became a sort of example to all of us for their mutual encouragement and sweetness. This will be their second awards season together, so here's a look into how they got to where they are now.

The first challenge in Boynton and Malek's relationship came rather quickly: The couple met while filming Bohemian Rhapsody, in which Malek starred as Queen singer Freddy Mercury and Boyton played Mary Austin, Mercury's wife (and then ex-wife). Reportedly, shooting the film was a "not pleasant" experience, with tensions running high between Malek and the film's director, Bryan Singer. When Singer's alleged unprofessionalism surfaced, Malek was a source of stability and comfort for Boynton. The actress called her on-set and real-life boyfriend a "leader" during the shoot.

Fashion must be a common interest for Boynton and Malek, as their first red carpet event appearance together was at Alexa Chung's Britpop party in London. Soon after, the duo also attended the Miu Miu show at Paris Fashion Week, and later attended the Met Gala together. In a way, they mirror their onscreen counterparts: Freddie Mercury was known for his cutting-edge style, and Boyton's Mary Austin costumes were absolutely to die for. In fact, Malek and Boynton look fabulous in all of their photos together.

Soon after wrapping Bohemian Rhapsody and making their first few official appearances together, it was time for Boynton and Malek to take advantage of all their hard work together and celebrate the film. In November of 2018, they began attending promotional events for Bohemian Rhapsody, and by January of 2019, they were able to go to awards ceremonies honoring the film. It was at the Palm Springs International Film Festival that Malek first thanked Boynton in his Breakthrough Performance Award acceptance speech, confirming the relationship. The pair went on to attend the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, BAFTAs, and of course, the Oscars, together.

Since Malek's big Academy Awards win, the pair have been promoting Boynton's recent project, Netflix Original series The Politician, and traveling together while trying to avoid the press. They traveled to Venice together for the Venice Film Festival and enjoyed a night on the town, then traveled back to the US for the premiere of The Politician. They were recently seen together in New York City, but are likely currently in Los Angeles for the Academy Awards. Here's hoping they spend many more awards shows, fashion events, and vacations together.
