Are We Still Doing This?

The shocking moment featured a sea of white children pulling stuffing from destroyed stuffed toys and pushing it into the young black boy’s hair. The kids are laughing, obviously amused and the victim is clearly not happy. In fact, he isn’t smiling and is cowered over unsure of how to react.

Fans watching the moment were obviously ticked off, especially because there wasn’t an immediate discipline or anyone seen telling the children to keep their hands to themselves. Racial undertones aside, the personal space issue was appalling.

The reactions on social media came flooding in with a mixture of outrage and a few “what’s the big deal” posts. One viewer @braveblackfemme posted; “There are a few problems here. Can you name them? Can we at least stay on code with the problems?” Others lauded it as a “hate crime” and @PhoeRoblesNYC posed a fantastic question.

“Who would film this as if it were sweet and non threatening” needless to say Twitter is in an uproar especially #BlackTwitter. The next logical step would be an apologetic press release from the Little League World Series… there was a press release, apologetic? That is debatable.

Seeing as all the other kids were amused, Little League executives saw no issues with the incident. They even doubled down and released a statement saying just that. They insisted that there was no “ill intent”. Allegedly, the parents were A-OK with the situation as well.

“After speaking with the team, as well as reviewing photos, multiple players on the Midwest Region team were taking part in this while enjoying the game,” yeah, we know, we saw it all LLWS.

“As only one player appeared on the broadcast, Little League International understands that the actions shown could be perceived as racially insensitive,” they note. “We have spoken with the player's mother and the coaches, who have assured us that there was no ill-intent behind the action shown during the broadcast.” No disrespect, but we would like to hear from the mother’s mouth that she is good with what took place.

The LLWS Is Business As Usual

While the controversy has pulled a little bit of attention away from the game, it is back to business as usual. The Davenport, Iowa team is representing the Midwest Region and they have already played and won two games.

The team is expected to continue playing, Tuesday is their next game and they need three wins in a row to make it to the finals. While the league is determined to move on, Twitter is not over the absolutely ridiculous scenario that went down and now, the lackluster statement.

Comedian Leslie Jones was shocked, she wrote, “Ok who the f**k gonna explain this b******t? I’m so tired of people saying they not racist but sit and let racist s**t happen! Anyone who comes in these comments to rationalize this I will RIP YOUR F*****G HEART OUT! So don’t f**k with me! Where r parents? Look at that boys face!?

She shared a different angle of the same black boy looking confused and not as comfortable as the LLWS is claiming.

A follower commented, “It doesn't matter how much they know about the past these kids are old enough to know better and since we're talking about LL baseball if ANY of these kids know who Jackie Robinson is and what he had to go through makes this even worse.”

The league has not and most likely will not release another statement. They said what they said. Back to the ball game!
