Teresa Giudice knew she and her now-estranged husband, Joe Giudice were headed for a separation long before the news was actually confirmed to the public.
During a new interview with People magazine, the Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member opened up about her decision to officially separate from husband after 20 years of marriage and admitted that when it came to splitting up, she knew she and Joe, who share four daughters, were going to be parting ways for “a long time.”
“I’ve known for like a long time. Just because we’ve been apart for so long,” she said. “We’ve been apart for a really long time. After my mom passed away, like a lot of resentment, a lot of things that just happened after I lost my mom.”
As fans of the former couple well know, Teresa and Joe share four daughters, Gia, 19, Gabriella, 16, Milania, 15, and Audriana, 11, and prior to their separation, they spent time as a family in Italy.
While Teresa and Joe’s marriage will soon come to an official end, the longtime reality star made it clear that when it comes to their relationship, she “will always have a special place for [Joe] in my heart.”
Teresa went on to reveal that despite being on different continents, she and Joe are staying in touch and are on great terms with one another currently.
“He texts me all the time that I love you. I adore you. You’re the best wife, best mother,” she shared.
Continuing on to People, Teresa explained that she and Joe are currently separated by the federal government, who ordered her husband to be deported to his native Italy in late 2018.
“How can I be with someone like that?” she wondered. “He lives in Italy and I live here.”
Although Joe has filed an appeal against the deportation ruling, no final decision has been made. So, rather than continue to spend time in the United States, where he was locked up at an immigration detention center from March 2019 until October 2019, Joe chose to return to Italy.
As Joe gets adjusted to his new life in Italy, Teresa is remaining focused on her daughters, including her oldest child, Gia, who began attending Rutgers University last summer.
Teresa is also spending time tending to the ongoing health issues plaguing her father, Giacinto Gorga.
As fans of The Real Housewives of New Jersey may have heard, Teresa’s dad had a bout with pneumonia last year and was readmitted into the hospital in early January after being faced with another illness.
