Vanessa Lachey Goes on Tirade Against Haters on Social Media Following Awkard Today Show Interview

With Jessica Simpson's candid memoir, Open Book, having just been released, many of the details of her personal life have been revealed, including those that she shared with ex-husband, Nick Lachey.

Following an interview that Simpson had on the Today Show with Hoda Kotb, her ex-husband and new wife, Vanessa, were given an opportunity to address claims made in the memoir, one being that the couple sent Simpson a beautiful gift following the birth of her children.

Nick and Vanessa adamantly denied sending Simpson a gift, but the manner in which Vanessa approached the questions has ruffled the feathers of many people on social media. Vanessa Lachey has since attacked those haters, one by one.

In the Today Show interview with Kotb, the host asked about a gift Simpson alleged to have received from the couple following the birth of one of her children. Both acted as though they had no idea and Vanessa was sternly adamant that no gift was sent.

It wasn't so much what she said during the interview, but how she said it. "It wasn’t us, but thank you, whoever sent it from us. I didn’t. I don’t know her address," Vanessa said in response to the question. For Lachey, though, she was simply trying to not take credit for something they didn't do, but people on social media were not having it.

Fans on Twitter began pouring in to comment on Lachey's 'pettiness' during in the interview. One user wrote, "@VanessaLachey is petty and it’s really disappointing to see her act this way. I used to like her," while another Twitter user shared, "Anyone else catch @VanessaLachey deny doing something nice for @JessicaSimpson on the today show? I feel like that was 10000% not necessary… and super awkward."

After seeing enough tweets condemning her for how she addressed the claim, Lachey responded in an attempt to defend herself. "Sorry you think that, just didn’t want to take credit for something we didn’t do," she began. "That’s all. Seems weird to ignore sending a big beautiful gift basket and taking that credit. Either way… hope you have a Beautiful day! ❤️"

Some social media users were so turned off by her demeanor and display on the Today Show that they vowed to no longer watch her Netflix show, Love Is Blind, that she stars in with her husband.

Upon Lachey seeing these tweets, she once again felt compelled to defend herself, sharing that she hopes they change their minds because she believed it was a really good show. "Well Damn, too bad, it’s a good show. Hope you change your mind and watch it! And sorry I was being honest and saying the truth. I feel weird accepting credit for something I didn’t do. But hey… we all have opinions. ;-)," Lachey tweeted.

One particular fan on Twitter called Lachey out for being an embarrassment, essentially summarizes the sentiments on social media.

"@VanessaLachey Classless act on @HodaAndJenna. U dont call out the host on live TV 2 look or feel important. @NickLachey embarrassed?? @JessicaSimpson had a heartwarming & tasteful interview that made those who dont know her fall in love w/ her. @Netflix dating show no comp 2 JS!" they wrote.

To Lachey, though, she believes she was simply clarifying a misunderstanding and didn't do anything wrong. "Totally hear you," she began. "But also, you make sure you do your research and state facts and ask appropriate questions as the host… don’t you think? The statement wasn’t true, so I was simply clearing that up. But definitely a beautiful sentiment if it was."

As this mystery continues to get weirder, there are sure to be some additional developments in the 'gift-giving' saga.
