Singer Prince's Estate Hit Up For $1 Million Over Late Brother's Unpaid Legal Bill

Prince’s estate has been hit with a lien by a lawyer who claims to be owed $1 million from the singer’s late brother.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, attorney Justin Bruntjen has filed a notice of attorney lien in the estate. He previously worked for Prince’s half-brother Alfred Jackson in matters.

Jackson was one of six siblings with an interest in Prince’s estate. He passed away from natural causes in August 2019.

Bruntjen says he is placing a lien against Jackson’s interest in, “in the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson, including any right to receive payments, property, proceeds, money or value of any kind, for agreed compensation for such services as were rendered by Justin Bruntjen respecting Alfred Jackson’s interest in the Estate.”

The lawyer says the lien is based on legal services rendered to Prince’s half-brother.

He worked for Jackson from April 2016 until November 2018. The lien states, “As of this date, the unpaid legal services and costs total $903,640.25 exclusive of any costs of collection. This amount does not include any fees and costs that Justin Bruntjen was awarded by the Court for work that benefitted the Estate as a whole.”

Prince’s heirs have been accused of refusing to pay massive legal bills from multiples lawyers.

Prince’s sister Tyka was ordered to pay $850,000 to various lawyers who helped her with estate work. She owed the firm Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty & Bennett $116,652.11 for work done in 2016, Holland & Knight was owed $717,254.37 and another firm Barnes & Thornburg was owed $21,816.59. The money was to be collected from any money paid out by the estate.

She was accused of owing another $100,000 to a fourth law firm.

Tyka recently sold off a portion of her interest in the estate to a third party, which caused issues in the court battle.
