Former pop star Jessica Simpson has been making waves with the shocking revelations emanating from her candid memoir, Open Book, which shares highly-personal information, not just about herself, but others, including her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, who she had a rocky and tumultuous divorce with years ago.
The book delves into the impetus for their marital problems and subsequent divorce, even going so far to say she slept with Lachey after the proceedings were all said and done. Well, another tidbit that was included in the memoir centered around ‘a gift’ that she received from Lachey and his new wife, Vanessa, upon having her first child.

Just recently, Simpson appeared on the Today Show and was interviewed by Hoda Kotb about her new book. During the interview, Simpson shared some intriguing stories about her past struggles with substance and alcohol addiction as a result of being sexually molested as a child. She also spoke about her failed marriage to Lachey.
And while the former couple doesn’t speak anymore, Simpson claimed in the book that Lachey and his new wife, Vanessa, sent her a gift. Ironically, Nick and his wife appeared on the Today Show only a few days later to sit down with Kotb, which ultimately, would result in some awkward, but ultimately, entertaining television.
Kotb began the interview by sharing that she had previously interviewed Simpson and her new memoir, Open Book, stating that the former pop singer said that she was happy for Nick and Vanessa. “I interviewed Jessica Simpson for her book, Open Book, and she talked about how she has her life with her husband and her children, and she was really, really happy for y’all,” Kotb said.
The Today Show host then added that Simpson had mentioned to her that the couple had “sent [her] something beautiful when we had our children.” Vanessa instantly took issue with that claim and addressed it head-on before Nick could respond.

In addressing the claims by Simpson that she and Nick sent his ex-wife a gift, Vanessa said, “I feel bad, I’m sorry, you said somebody sent her cause… it wasn’t us, but thank you, whoever sent it,” making sure that she heard the statement from Kotb correctly.
Kotb then went on to explain the comment in more detail, sharing that Simpson said she received a gift from the couple after some big life event. At that point, Lachey turned to Vanessa and jokingly asked her if she had sent a gift to Simpson. “What did you send?” Vanessa quick quipped back saying, “I didn’t…I don’t know her address. But thank you whoever sent it from us.”
During the awkward exchange, Kotb also asked Nick if he knew about Simpson’s drinking problem and childhood molestation history. Lachey shared that he hadn’t read the book, avoiding the question altogether.
“I’ll be honest, I obviously haven’t read the book, so I don’t know what she said or what she revealed there. But certainly happy for her and her life,” Lachey politely responded. “I know she is happy for us. There’s definitely a mutual respect there, obviously, it was a long time ago and we’ve all moved on.”
Whether he knew or not, is hearsay. What we do know, though, is it doesn’t seem like a reunion between the former couple is likely, at least in the near future.
