In an episode of the "Better Together" podcast from last year, the "Donnie Brasco" star revealed that she had tried to stop de Rossi from beginning a romantic relationship with DeGeneres several years ago.

She revealed that "Arrested Development" star asked her thoughts on beginning a relationship with the comedian during her wedding to Coleman Laffoon in 2001. Coleman was a cameraman Heche had met during one of DeGeneres's comedy tours. After five and half years of marriage, Coleman filed for divorce.

"Portia came to my wedding because I was on Ally McBeal with her. Portia even said, 'I'm gonna go after Ellen,'" Heche recalled the incident per Newsweek.

"You won't be the poster child, girl, because guess what, that poster child has already been taken. And by the way, it wasn't a great spot. But... yours ain't gonna be any easier. And I'm telling you now, like, red flag, red flag, red flag!" Heche responded to DeRossi at the time.

Despite Heche's alleged warning, DeRossi went after DeGeneres, and the two formed a quick connection, eventually leading to a relationship. The pair subsequently got married in 2008 and have continued to live in bliss, as seen by their recently celebrated 14th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Heche's warning seems to stem from some of her experiences while she was dating the comedian. In the podcast, she claimed that DeGeneres banned her from appearing on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which was hugely popular and was a major means for promoting new films.

Heche opined that the move dealt a huge blow to her career growth. She claimed that several networks and studios were hesitant to recruit her since doing so would have meant they couldn't use the Degeneres' program to promote their projects.

Heche had met Degeneres during a 1997 Vanity Fair Oscars party. The pair's relationship lasted for three and a half years and faced the stigma of being a same-sex couple. However, while the popular notion might be they broke apart because of the flak from the public, the real reason behind the pair's separation was because they had different goals.

"I broke up with her because her goal was to have a lot of money, and mine was to find love," Heche revealed in the podcast. "Hers was, I want 60 billion. Good luck, our forks are never going to meet. The further we stay on with this, the further we will be apart."
