Florence Pugh Braless Addresses 'Alarming' See-Through Dress Backlash

Actress Florence Pugh is again addressing the backlash that she received for going braless in a sheer pink dress that put her busty assets on full display.

Last month, she and her mother attended the Valentino Haute Couture fashion show wearing a see-through pink tulle dress, which was custom-made for her by designer Pierpaolo Piccioli.

She quickly received a lot of critical comments for her decision to wear the dress without a lining, and although she has addressed the criticism on Instagram before, she opened up on the criticism again in a new Harper’s Bazaar cover story.

In the cover story, Pugh said that she is "comfortable" with her body, no matter what it looks like. “I was comfortable with my small breasts,” she told the publication. “And showing them like that — it aggravated [people] that I was comfortable.”

“It was just alarming, how perturbed they were," the 26-year-old actress continued. "They were so angry that I was confident, and they wanted to let me know that they would never wank over me. Well, don’t.”

Elsewhere in the interview, she also admitted that she and "Scrubs" star Zach Braff had called it quits earlier this year after dating for nearly three years together. The couple had endured a large amount of criticism for their 11-year age gap.

“We’ve been trying to do this separation without the world knowing because it’s been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on,” Pugh told the outlet. “We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we’re not together.”

The "Don't Worry Darling" star has never been shy about saying exactly what she thinks, and that's exactly what she did in a candid Instagram post a few days after she first shared photos of the dress.

The "Little Women" actress addressed the backlash in a lengthy Instagram post last month. "Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it," she began. "Whether it be negative or positive, we all knew what we were doing."

"I was excited to wear it, not a wink of me was nervous," she told her followers. "I wasn’t before, during or even now after."

"What’s been interesting to watch and witness is just how easy it is for men to totally destroy a woman’s body, publicly, proudly, for everyone to see," she wrote. "You even do it with your job titles and work emails in your bio..?"

"It isn’t the first time and certainly won’t be the last time a woman will hear what’s wrong with her body by a crowd of strangers, what’s worrying is just how vulgar some of you men can be," she continued.

"Thankfully, I’ve come to terms with the intricacies of my body that make me, me. I’m happy with all of the ‘flaws’ that I couldn’t bear to look at when I was 14. So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my ‘tiny t---’, or how I should be embarrassed by being so ‘flat chested’."

"I’ve lived in my body for a long time," she told her followers. "I’m fully aware of my breast size and am not scared of it."

"What’s more concerning is…. Why are you so scared of breasts? Small? Large? Left? Right? Only one? Maybe none?" she continued. "What. Is. So. Terrifying."

"It makes me wonder what happened to you to be so content on being so loudly upset by the size of my boobs and body..?" she asked.

"I’m very grateful that I grew up in a household with very strong, powerful, curvy women. We were raised to find power in the creases of our body. To be loud about being comfortable," she explained. "It has always been my mission in this industry to say ‘f--- it and f--- that’ whenever anyone expects my body to morph into an opinion of what’s hot or sexually attractive."

"I wore that dress because I know," she wrote. "If being loudly abusive towards women publicly in 2022 is so easy for you, then the answer is that it is you who doesn’t know. Grow up. Respect people. Respect bodies. Respect all women. Respect humans. Life will get a whole lot easier, I promise. And all because of two cute little nipples…."

She wrapped up her caption with the hashtag #f---ingfreethef---ingnipple."

Many celebrities, like "Scenes From A Marriage" actress Jessica Chastain and "Bridgerton" actor Regé-Jean Page reposted her message on their Instagram Stories to show their support for her body positive message.
