Famous British author and philanthropist J.K. Rowling was left stunned after receiving a chilling death threat last week. The Harry Potter author has been active on her Twitter page for some time, and fans love this, as it has made them more connected to her.
However, this gave a Twitter user room to threaten the star. This was after she shared a supportive message for Salman Rushdie after the novelist got brutally stabbed on Friday. In response to the tragic incident, Rowling tweeted, “Feeling very sick right now.”
She then wished him well, “Let him be ok.” Amidst the many fans commenting in support of Rushdie underneath the tweet, a user told the author, “Don’t worry you are next.”

J.K. Rowling Reached Out To Twitter Support
The “Satanic Verses” author, Rushdie, was attacked at the CHQ 2022 event in New York while on stage. He was stabbed in his face, arms, and torso around 15 times. He is also reportedly in danger of losing an eye. Rowling was among the many stars who tweeted in support of the 75-year-old.
In response to the shocking comment, Rowling quoted the user’s statement and tagged Twitter’s official support account. She then pleaded with them to help her out. Later on, she thanked her fans and followers for supporting her and calling out the threat.
She also assured them that everything was under control and that the authorities had taken up the situation. She tweeted, “To all sending supportive messages: thank you. Police are involved (were already involved on other threats).”
Salman Rushdie Got Attacked
As reported by RadarOnline, security immediately rushed Rushdie to the hospital after the attack that left the stage bloodied and the audience absolutely horrified. While many fans hoped his life wasn’t in danger, his agent Andrew Wylie dashed their hopes by saying, “The news is not good.”
In a statement updating fans on his condition, Wylie confirmed that Salman was in danger of losing an eye and would probably need a new liver. He said, “Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed, and his liver was stabbed and damaged.” Fans were relieved a little after hearing that the suspect of the brutal stabbing was found.
The Suspected Salman Rushdie Attacker Was Found
The Law enforcement authorities quickly identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man from New Jersey named Hadi Matar. Per the authorities, he had “sympathies toward the Iranian government,” which was part of his motive for the attack.
This tragedy also comes over three decades after the controversial writer’s life was threatened by Iranian citizen Ayatollah Khomeini who called for Rushdie’s death in 1989. This caused Rushdie to go into hiding at the time to protect himself. Matar now faces assault and murder charges of the second degree.
While Rushdie was seriously hurt, 73-year-old Henry Reese, who moderated the event, was also injured in the attack. He had announced the author’s presence shortly before the stabbing. Though he was taken to the hospital with Rushdie, he was able to return home that same day.
An Attack On Writers
After his release from the hospital, Henry Reese gave ABC News a press statement about the incident. In the statement, he called for writers to be careful as the attack was a threat to many of them. He also explained that it could happen to any writer in the US.
He said, “The fact that this attack could occur in the United States is indicative of the threats to writers from many governments and from many individuals and organizations.” Though Rushdie is currently in critical condition, Wylie also noted that he has hope that he will pull through it.
“He’s off the ventilator, so the road to recovery has begun,” Wylie said to CNN on Sunday, two days after the incident. However, he asked fans to be patient, confirming that the healing process would be long. He said, “It will be long — the injuries are severe. But his condition is headed in the right direction.”
Wylie also noted that Rushdie was “able to say a few words” on Saturday. “Though his life changing injuries are severe, his usual feisty & defiant sense of humor remains intact.” Fans wish him a quick recovery.
