Model Paulina Porizkova Continues To Advocate For 'Gray Pride'

Former model Paulina Porizkova continues to advocate for "gray pride" in a new Instagram post.

Paulina was the first Central European woman to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in 1984 at age 18. In 1988, she earned a $6M contract with Estée Lauder, which, at the time, was the highest-paying modeling contract ever.

Now, at age 57, Paulina continues to advocate for real women and recently called out a cosmetic surgeon who reposted a photo of her and detailed all of the ways that she needed "fixing." Although many fans and famous friends showered her with praise, Paulina decided to create a follow-up post on Monday to clarify the point that she was trying to make.

Paulina began her latest Instagram post with a close-up selfie taken by Bjorn Iooss. She began her lengthy caption, writing, " In my last post, I mostly got a lot of wonderful compliments on how good I look. Thank you all. But that wasn’t the point of it. (I thought I looked pretty good in that photo as well.?). She added, "We can all look good in a well-lit selfie lying down."

"What I was trying to convey was that even a great photo of an older woman in which she looks 'younger' society has decided her face or body are somehow wrong- not good ENOUGH," she continued. "So here, with the sharp focus of a professional lens, my age is on full display. This is the face of 57 year old woman. All the so-called 'imperfections' of age clearly visible."

"It makes me simultaneously insecure and proud. I have lost the smooth glow and prettiness of youth, but I have gained character," she continued. "I look at my girlfriends and loved ones, and what I love the most about them is exactly that, their 'They-ness.' The unique imprints of their lives on their physical appearance, their uniqueness, their recognizability as 'them.'"

"I hope my loved ones feel the same way about me," she wrote. "When a friend elects to do something - I have to admit she looks prettier. But I start missing her. The her I knew. It’s a trade-off. Prettiness or character?"

"As a society, we celebrate one far more than the other- so it’s no wonder the balance is off," she concluded. "And despite my philosophizing - I’m still battling with it myself. If only I could fully see myself the way I see you."

She closed off the post with the hashtags #betweenJLoandBettyWhite, #GrayPride, and #AgingIsAPrivilege.

Fitness trainer Ashley Borden commented, “So many things about you make you beautiful, Paulina. Most importantly is your humanity ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

One follower commented, “Yeah, but you are perfect ?.” Paulina replied “gosh- I hope not! ?.” The follower replied, “You are like a master piece.”

Another fan commented, “You remind me of Audrey Hepburn in this pic! ❤️??.” Paulina replied, “I’ll take that ?.”

Another follower wrote, “Beautiful Paulina. The female version here of Rodin’s The Thinker ❤️.” Paulina replied, “?.”

Another fan commented, “And amidst all that character is beauty ✨.” Paulina responded to this fan too, writing, “yes, beauty IS character.”

Other fans showered her post with praise. “You are still beautiful ?…. As long as you are happy in your heart ❤️ that shines on your face…” one fan wrote. “Thank you for being real. You are beautiful and wonderful! Inside and out,” another follower said. “Wearing your authenticity is always the hottest ?,” another fan added.
