Kobe Bryant, the NBA superstar, died on Sunday morning in a fatal helicopter crash leaving behind Vanessa Bryant, his wife, who has since been silent. She has, however, broken the silence, taking to Instagram on Wednesday to thank fans. Bryant died together with her daughter and seven others who were also in the helicopter.
She expressed her devastation, and at the same time, noted the love fans had poured out in condoling with the family. She thanked the millions who were with the family in prayers and confessed to needing them.
Vanessa’s post was, however, not self-centered as she went ahead to talk about her family as well as those of the other victims of the fatal crash. She said that they felt devastated for the loss of the amazing father and sweet daughter. She confessed to feeling the devastation from the loss of the other victims, and they intimately shared the grief.
She had earlier on in the day changed her Instagram profile picture to Kobe Bryant and Gianna sharing some of their tender moments.
In the photo, Kobe and his daughter are in an embrace while smiling. He wore a red NBA warmup outfit and leaned over to hug Gianna. After the tragedy, Vanessa’s Instagram account had gone private, only coming public again on Wednesday. The profile photo saw her page add the number of followers by about 2 million.
Her last photo before the crash had been on Saturday, when she posted Bianca her daughter, as she opened the fridge to take some juice. Kobe was among the followers who liked the post.
The star was taking his daughter for a tournament that has since been postponed. As usatoday.com reports, the NBA decided to defer the Lakers against Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday game in honor of the Lakers organization for the sudden loss.
As Vanessa noted, the world has since offered support and condolences, including Kobe’s teammates. Kobe had been playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, and Lebron James had been with him in the team. He was his close friend, and among the first people to write their tribute shortly after the incident.
James’ tribute on Instagram began with him saying he did not feel ready yet to pen his feelings, but he took the courage. The Lakers player confessed to having tried several times to write it down, although the thoughts of his fallen friend had all through overcome him, and tears. He described his relationship with Kobe to have been great, terming it as friendship, brotherhood, and referring to Kobe as a big brother that he loved. He promises to keep on Kobe’s legacy. Vanessa has since come up with a shocking revelation, saying that Kobe and Gianna had vowed never to fly in the same plane.
