It is hard to stomach that these two disney stars who essentially grew up together and were best friends for years, now don’t even speak. It has been well documented through various interviews and social media spats that Demi and Selena are not at the same point they were during the golden era . That glimmering spark has dimmed between the two and it seems as if Demi wants absolutely nothing to do with Selena. Her clear disdain for her has been shined upon more recently because of Gomez’s public response to her comeback Grammy performance.
If we compare and contrast the reputations of both parties involved it is obvious that Gomez has been hailed generally as the American sweetheart who’s been used and abused, and Lovato as the bad girl with a drug issue. Lovato proudly wears her pain on her shoulders which helps to connect her with her audience and allows her to have a more “real” non-superficial persona. Whereas with Gomez she has a history of being the beautiful swan that needs to be protected at all costs from anyone and everything. It isn’t completely clear as to why their friendship has dwindled down to nothing. It could be the fact that Gomez becoming a part of Taylors very “extra” squad wasn’t really Lovato’s scene, or that Demi like many of us got tired of hearing Gomez complain all the time about her on and off relationship with Justin Bieber.
Although in the media it’s been stressed that Selena Gomez is a kind, sweet, and far from toxic human being. There has been evidence to the contrary that she can be problematic. A huge example that put a bad taste in fans mouths is the whole debacle with her and alleged best friend Francia. Notably Selena does have a disease called Lupus and her kidneys were giving out. She could have died if she did not find a match. Luckily, by the grace of God her good friend Francia offered to help her. It is understandable that giving up an organ has to be one of the greatest sacrifices anyone could possibly make. But, after Selena’s operation was said and done fans took notice that she repeatedly ignores and almost forgets that Francia exists. She also has a history of remaining not so political about certain social issues, but all in on other ones. Her hypocrisy could be to blame for why on Sunday when Gomez posted on her Instagram about Demi’s soul-crushing performance in a flattering fashion, Demi went radio silent.
