Nicole Scherzinger Counter Sues Pussycat Dolls Founder Robin Antin For Damages

Singer and dancer Nicole Scherzinger has hit back at Robin Antin following the business mogul's previous suit where she accused the singer of extortion.

Scherzinger, who was the former lead vocalist for the Pussycat Dolls, was approached by Antin to headline the group's reunion tour, which was first scheduled to hold from May 2021 to June 2021. However, the two were at loggerheads regarding how to split the revenue, which among other things, caused the tour to be canceled.

Antin first sued Scherzinger for extortion last year following the tour's cancellation. The "Poison" crooner has recently filed a cross-complaint against Antin, claiming that her former boss mismanaged the reunion tour funds and breached their contract.

According to court records acquired by Radar Online, Scherzinger is coming after Antin for various reasons, including a claim that she misused funds meant for the Pussycat Dolls reunion tour. The "Right There" singer detailed the alleged wrongdoing in the complaint, claiming that her former boss embezzled some of the money and distributed a part to others who had minimal involvement in the reunion tour's preparations.

"Antin's self-dealing included extorting $30,000 in "fees," which she was contractually prohibited from taking," the suit read. "Antin's waste included paying another entertainer, Pia Mia, more than $100,000 to be PCD's lead singer and buying her an expensive gift. Ms. Mia did not last with PCD and provided no benefit to the project. When Antin realized that a PCD with Ms. Mia would not be successful, Antin again approached Scherzinger."

Scherzinger now demands $1.1 million in damages, claiming she forfeited other gigs worth at least $1 million to join the Pussycat Dolls tour.

In the suit, Scherzinger also named Pussycat Dolls Inc, a company owned by Antin, and also managed the songs recorded by Nicole's previous band. She further alleged that Antin used her name to secure a commercial benefit without authorization.

Other noted details include a claim that the "Don't Hold Your Breath" crooner spent at least $163k of her personal funds to cover Pussycat Dolls expenses. The singer stated in the filing that there was no form of reimbursement, adding that the funds which Antin diverted could have been used to pay for the expenses.

She added that Antin breached her duties and obligations by giving her no touring advance while her former label mates received their share.

"Not only was Scherzinger the only PCD member to personally contribute funds to pay reunion tour expenses, but she was also the only one who never received any touring advance," the suit read.

Scherzinger's recent suit is in response to a lawsuit filed by Antin last year, where she claimed that the singer was the reason that the reunion tour failed. Per reports from Radar Online, both parties had reached an agreement in 2019 for the Scherzinger to serve as the tour's headlining act.

The former PCD lead vocalist allegedly consented to do 45 gigs for 49 percent of the revenue. After reaching the arrangement, Antin borrowed a sizable sum of money with the knowledge that the singer would be performing. However, Scherzinger reportedly tried to rewrite her contract at the last minute, asking for 75 percent of the revenues and complete creative control.

Antin refused to give in to those steep demands, and the tour fell apart after it had been rescheduled due to the pandemic. The earlier lawsuit said that Scherzinger's "extortion" caused the PCD boss to lose millions from the proposed tour, demanding that the singer compensates for the loss and legal costs.

PCD peaked in popularity with the songs "Don't Cha," "Stickwitu," and "Buttons," as well as their 2005 multi-platinum first album "PCD." The disbanded troupe sold 55 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most successful female groups of all time

The group split up in 2010 after 15 years of collaboration due to internal strife about the group's focus on lead vocalist Scherzinger and the treatment of the other members, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt.

Scherzinger went on to fly solo, releasing two official albums, 2011 "Killer Love" and 2014 "Big Fat Lie," which garnered average success. She also debuted in the film industry, taking on roles in the Disney animated film "Moana, the dance drama "Dirty Dancing," and the tv special "Annie Live!"
